This year, its curated programming, CoMPAS26 (Contemporary Music and Performing Arts Season), closely aligns with an expanded international touring strategy, successfully presenting contemporary Korean theatrical productions to global audiences.

World Premiere of Uncle Vanya Produced by LG Arts Center Concludes to Critical Acclaim in Seoul

A major highlight of LG Arts Center’s first-half season was the world premiere of Uncle Vanya, which ran throughout May 2026. Following 2024’s acclaimed The Cherry Orchard, LG Arts Center staged another Chekhov masterpiece, leveraging Korean actors’ unique ability to balance comedy and tragedy. The play was directed by Son Sang-gyu, a respected Korean actor-director and co-founder of the theatre collective Yangson Project. Son brought a clear directorial vision and a refined understanding of ensemble storytelling, creating a production that felt both contemporary and faithful to Chekhov’s humanistic spirit.

The title role was performed by Lee Seo-jin, one of Korea’s most widely recognised actors, whose portrayal captured both the humor and quiet despair of Vanya. His highly anticipated appearance on stage was greeted with rapturous applause. Sonya was played by Ko Ah-sung, an actress internationally renowned for her film work, including The Host and Snowpiercer. She brought remarkable sensitivity and poignancy to the production, anchoring the emotional core of the play. They were joined by a superb cast of top-tier actors from the Korean theatre scene, creating a powerful eight-member ensemble.

LG Arts Center Co-Production Snow, Snow, Snow Invited to Festival d’Avignon

Following its completely sold-out 2025 premiere, the LG Arts Center co-production Snow, Snow, Snow will make its highly anticipated European debut this July as part of the official programme of the renowned Festival d’Avignon on 17, 18, 21 and 22 Jul.

Created and performed by acclaimed artist Lee Jaram, the work reimagines the traditional Korean storytelling form of pansori through a contemporary theatrical lens. Known internationally for her innovative approach to narrative performance, Lee combines the expressive power of traditional vocal storytelling with modern dramaturgy, creating works that resonate across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Following its performances in France, Snow, Snow, Snow will return to LG Arts Center SEOUL in Oct for an encore engagement, building on the strong audience response and critical recognition it has received since its premiere.

LG Arts Center’s The Cherry Orchard to Make North American Premiere at New York’s Park Avenue Armory

LG Arts Center’s globally acclaimed original production of The Cherry Orchard continues its international journey. Directed by Simon Stone, the production reimagines Chekhov’s classic through a contemporary Korean lens, bringing together Stone’s distinctive theatrical language and an outstanding Korean cast.

Since its premiere at LG Arts Center SEOUL in 2024, The Cherry Orchard has steadily expanded its international presence. Following performances in Seoul, the production embarked on a major Asian tour in 2025, with engagements at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in Singapore, before appearing at Australia’s Adelaide Festival in early 2026.

The production will make its highly anticipated North American premiere at New York’s Park Avenue Armory from 14 – 25 Sep 2026. The strictly limited 10-performance engagement features a distinguished ensemble of leading Korean actors, including internationally recognized screen stars Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo.

The Park Avenue Armory presentation marks a significant milestone in the production’s international trajectory and offers an important platform for introducing contemporary Korean theatre to North American audiences.
