Singapore Symphony Orchestra Returns to China for Seven-City Tour

Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s China Tour

This Oct, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) returns to China for the first time in 15 years, embarking on a seven-city tour led by Quantedge Music Director Hannu Lintu.

The tour will be Hannu Lintu’s inaugural tour with the orchestra and marks a significant milestone in the SSO’s international engagement.

Presented in partnership with Temasek Foundation, the tour will take the SSO to Shanghai, Wuhan, Beijing, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen from 13 to 25 Oct 2026. The tour opens at the Jaguar Shanghai Symphony Hall, building on the longstanding partnership between the Singapore and Shanghai Symphonies and their shared commitment to fostering cultural understanding and artistic collaboration.

Singapore’s rising star Chloe Chua joins the orchestra for Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto in Shanghai, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen. These performances also feature Singaporean composer Wang Chenwei’s The Sisters’ Islands《姐妹岛》, a vivid tone poem inspired by the Singaporean legend, alongside Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan”, a work of sweeping scale and expressive intensity.

In Wuhan and Beijing, Chloe Chua reunites with fellow Menuhin Competition alumnus He Ziyu for Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola. The concert then concludes with Mahler’s First Symphony under the baton of Hannu Lintu.

Before departing for China, the SSO will present both tour programmes to Singapore audiences in Pre-Tour Concerts at the University Cultural Centre, National University of Singapore on 8 and 9 Oct, offering a preview of the repertoire that will travel with the orchestra across seven cities.
