Hibiki

Suntory Hall’s commissioned work Hibiki by a British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage won the RPS Music Award*, Large-Scale Composition prize.

Hibiki is for solo voices, orchestra and children’s choir, which received its UK premiere at the BBC Proms 2017. The multiple meanings of the Japanese word “Hibiki” – beautiful sound / resonance / echo – are reflected in Turnage’s work – which was envisaged as a ‘consolation after loss’ and commissioned as a Requiem for the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Suntory Hall.

Hibiki commissioned by Suntory Hall for its 30th anniversary was world premiered at Suntory Hall in November 2016.
