Philippines Hosts the IUTA 13th World Congress in 2020
With the theme “The University Theater as a Social and Cultural Agent”, the 13th World Congress of the International University Theatre Association (IUTA) will be held in Manila from March – July 2020 (theatre festival) and August 2020 (congress proper). The event expects to gather students and educators of local colleges and universities as well as around 350 delegates from IUTA’s member network of theatre associations from 1,500 universities located around the world. This is the second time that the Philippines is hosting an IUTA event; the first one being in 2011.
Select university-based theatre groups head to the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) venues from March until July 2020 to showcase next generation talent in their productions of original Filipino works, adaptations of classics and experimental works. The season of university theater productions ramps up to the 13th IUTA Congress and Festival to be held in August.
The IUTA World Congress is held biennially or every two years. The most recent congress was held in Moscow, Russia in September 2018 which was attended by CCP President, Arsenio J. Lizaso. He was subsequently elected by the IUTA executive committee members to serve as IUTA Vice President for a term of two years during the 2018 congress. Lizaso also serves as the IUTA Philippine Center Executive Director.

IUTA has members in over 50 countries.
