Flamenco Agency Collaborates with AAPPAC Members in 2023
The Association of Asia-Pacific Performing Arts Centres (AAPPAC) is truly a network that enables exchange and collaboration. Flamenco Agency, an esteemed and long-standing AAPPAC Business Circle member shares their collaborative experiences with fellow AAPPAC members in 2023.
Flamenco Agency is a platform that promotes artists, shows, and knowledge of the art of Flamenco on an international level. Based in Seville, Spain, where Flamenco was born, the agency was founded in 2007 by Dr. Jaime Trancoso.
Specialising in the distribution of the finest flamenco ballets in Spain and consequently, in the world, Flamenco Agency has been touring Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, and many more countries in 2023 for very special celebrations.
They were delighted to participate in the 50th birthday celebration of the Adelaide Festival Centre (AFC) last year, described as “the heart of the arts in South Australia” by Douglas Gautier, the CEO & Artistic Director of Adelaide Festival Centre. Compañía Flamenca Antonio Andrade was invited to establish a connection between Adelaide and Seville through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and to revive the production Flamenco Suite for this unique occasion.

The performance was held at Her Majesty’s Theatre, a historical venue that has been successfully renovated, within the Adelaide Guitar Festival frame.

There were many reasons to celebrate in the Philippines too. the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), a member of AAPPAC, was celebrating the 75th anniversary of Philippines-Spain diplomatic relations and the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood.

After performing at the prestigious Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance & Music, Granada Flamenco Ballet embarked on a tour of the Philippines with Dance for Me (Báilame).

The CCP was created in 1966 to promote and preserve Filipino arts and culture. As their main venue is under renovations, Granada Flamenco Ballet performed at their new venue, CCP Blackbox Theater (Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez), that we had visited for the AAPPAC annual congress in 2019. Dancing between its seating sections reminded us of the traditional performances at Granada caves!

In addition, there were also two first performances at the Casino Español in Cebu. In accordance with Flamenco Agency’s sustainability plan, which aims to enhance the sustainability of tours while boosting the visibility of their artists, their companies stay for extended periods and stage as many performances as possible. This not only proves more advantageous for clients, who can share the costs of flights, but the Ballet also offered flamenco workshops in both Cebu and Manila.
The vision of Flamenco Agency is to elevate and establish Flamenco within the highest category of the performing arts. Flamenco Agency puts forth proposals of the utmost artistic quality for international stages.
In its dedication to the performing arts, Flamenco Agency maintains a consortium and concerted actions with the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA). Simultaneously, it forms part of the Business Circle of the Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres (AAPPAC) and collaborates closely with the most prestigious festivals of the European Festivals Association (EFA).
Flamenco Agency’s ballets are set to tour Asia once again in 2025 with Shakespeare Flamenco, a captivating production of Hamlet which collaborates with local choirs.

They will also be touring with a new production of Carmen, premiering in Europe in the summer of 2024. The Barcelona Flamenco Ballet can perform independently, or collaborate with local orchestras and choirs, involving more than 100 artists on stage. For example, the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia opted for the latter and achieved a sold-out performance a year in advance, selling 1000 tickets.
