Virginia Hyam named new Head of Programming at HOTA
HOTA, Home of the Arts on Australia’s Gold Coast has just named arts programmer and producer Virginia Hyam as its new Head of Programming.
Having worked on a freelance basis with HOTA for the past year, Virginia now joins the team full time.

“Virginia is such an asset and we’re delighted that such a well-respected, experienced programmer is joining our team. Her experience, bold vision and belief in artists makes her the ideal person to help us continue to deliver great events and amazing experiences at HOTA,” said Moira Hay, Executive Producer.
Virginia brings a wealth of experience to the role. She started her arts career in Youth Arts in South Australia, moving on to directing the Melbourne Fringe Festival and then to Sydney Opera House, where she worked for ten years as Executive Producer of the Studio and Head of Contemporary Culture, specialising in the presentation of contemporary performance.
She then worked as a freelance producer, curator and arts advisor; both in Australia and internationally before accepting a role as creative producer of Festival 2018, the Arts and Cultural Festival of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
An avid traveller, Virginia continues to build networks across the globe and maintains an active curatorial profile, from programming to advisory positions.
Now based on the Gold Coast, Virginia is delighted to take up the position of Head of Programming at HOTA.

“It’s a great time to take on this role at HOTA, Home of the Arts. After the rebrand 12 months ago, the organisation has taken an exciting new direction. No longer content to be a regional venue, HOTA is placing itself on the map with some really bold and exciting programming. And I’m delighted to be part of it.” said Virginia.
HOTA, Home of the Arts has a big year coming up with bold new activations indoors and outdoors, representing artists from across the globe and unearthing voices from the Gold Coast, supported through our new HOTA creates programme.
Welcoming Australian favourites with performances from the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Queensland Ballet, Monkey Baa, Opera Australia, Slingsby and Bell Shakespeare, to name a few, alongside an array of community events that includes, life drawing, social dance – dancing on the green.

HOTA, Home of the Arts is the centrepiece of the City of Gold Coast’s Cultural Masterplan. Over the next 10-15 years, the precinct will continue to evolve and support the Gold Coast thriving arts and culture scene.
In early 2018, HOTA opened their $37.5 million state of the art Outdoor Stage and construction is currently taking place to build a bridge connecting the precinct to Surfers Paradise, a major tourist destination. And work has begun on the new free standing $60 million HOTA Gallery which once completed, will showcase a combination of international, national and local works set to put the Gallery on an international stage.
