CCP Appoints New Vice-President and Artistic Director
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis N. Marasigan as its new Vice-President and Artistic Director, effective 2 Nov 2022.
Marasigan is a multi-awarded director, writer, lighting designer and actor for theatre, film and television. He had previously served the CCP from 1987 to 2006 in various capacities: as Technical Director, Theater Operations Manager, Associate Artistic Director for Performing Arts, and Assistant Vice-President for Marketing.
He was seconded to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) as Executive Director from 1998 to 2000. From 2006 to 2008, he was Artistic Director of Tanghalang Pilipino, the CCP resident theatre company, and President of the Philippine Legitimate Stage Artists Group (PHILSTAGE). Afterwards, he went back to freelance work. At the time of his appointment, he was the Theatre Arts Programme Head for the Meridian International (MINT) College, Chief Creative Officer of Great Media Productions, Inc., and Board Member of the Artists Welfare Project, Inc.
He graduated BA Theatre Arts and Master of Public Administration from the University of the Philippines and the Managing the Arts Programme from the Asian Institute and Management. Through grants and scholarships, he observed theatre and film practices in Moscow, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Canada, including attachments and residencies at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, Royal Opera House, English National Opera, The Banff Centre, the Shaw Festival Theatre, the Harbourfront Centre, and the National Film Board of Canada.
During his previous tenure at the CCP, he participated in the AAPPAC Conferences and Meetings in Melbourne (1996), Seoul (1997), Manila (1998), Nagoya (1999), Macau (2002) and Hong Kong (2006).
Marasigan succeeded Chris Millado, who had retired earlier this year. They were college classmates at the University of the Philippines. Upon his retirement, Millado had written an open letter to whoever would succeed him which began with ““Break a leg!” for taking on what could be the best arts management post in the country.”
Marasigan has this to say about his new position: “As Artistic Director of the CCP at this time, the primary challenge is how to expand the CCP’s celebration of artistic excellence and bring arts and cultural events to more venues nationwide amid the temporary closure of the CCP building for a three-year renovation. We will continue to nurture the best talents from all parts of the country while expanding our reach and widening public access. We invite our publics to continue to support and participate in our celebration of arts and culture.”
