Shaanxi Performing Arts Center – Venturing Forth into the Bold Unknown

Shaanxi Performing Arts Center (SNPAC) is excited to announce that they will be opening their newest facility, the Kai Yuan Grand Theatre in Xi’an, China in May 2023. Situated in an urban locale permitting easy access to attendees, the facility will boast a main house with a capacity for 1300 patrons and a 500-seat black box theatre. The opening marks an important step in the cultural development of the city and foreshadows additional expansion to come as China and the world refocus on the arts and community engagement.

The first performance at the new theatre will be A Startling Dream, a comedy directed by and starring Chen Peisi which is certain to be a highlight of Hi. Let’s Play, the 12th annual Xi’an Theatre Festival.
Over the years one of the primary goals of the Xi’an Theatre Festival has been strengthening bonds with the wider global community. They hope to continue to foster that spirit this year through collaboration with international artists in productions such as Faust, acclaimed director Rimas Tuminas’ only Chinese play, and community outreach activities featuring artists and creative teams from overseas sharing their knowledge in theatre workshops and discussions on script creation.

However, just as important as reaching outwards, they seek to cultivate lasting and important relationships with local society. Among other events, Sunset Date: Guanzhong Theatre Night, presented in partnership with the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, highlights their commitment to both local culture and the next generation of creators.

Finally, Xi’an Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to embark upon our 2023 music season with the theme of Infinite Love. They are delighted to be welcoming Rico Saccani as their first Music Director (starting in December 2023), and for the return of Principal Conductor Dane Lam and Chorus Resident Conductor Fabio Ciula.
Infinite Love – XSO 2023 Season
The year will be an exhilarating and expansive journey featuring a total of five concert series with no fewer than eleven performances. There is also a stellar guest lineup of brilliant artists from home and abroad including Zhang Guoyong, Shi Yijie, Lv Siqing, Ning Feng, Qin Liwei, Zhang Haochen, Akiko Suwanai, Yoav Levanon, and Luo Wei to share our Infinite Love for music in Xi’an. Lastly, after the seemingly interminable delay brought by the pandemic, the highly anticipated Martha Argerich and Friends is here.
Spring has always been known as the season of renewal, but for this year at least, the rejuvenation will last as long as the calendar. Come find beauty again with SNPAC.
