West Kowloon Celebrates Xiqu Centre’s 5th Anniversary and more!
The first-ever Hong Kong International Cultural Summit will be held in Mar 2024
From 25 – 26 Mar 2024, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) will organise the first-ever Hong Kong International Cultural Summit to promote international cultural exchange and long-term partnerships. The Summit will be held at the Xiqu Centre, M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

Xiqu Centre 5th Anniversary Celebrations
The Xiqu Centre marks its fifth anniversary with a festive three-month programme of classics and original work by renowned local and regional troupes between Jan to Mar 2024. Since its opening in 2019, the Xiqu Centre has produced and staged a wide variety of popular and award-winning productions, promoting Chinese traditional theatre to a wider audience and nurturing a new generation of xiqu artists. From January to March 2024, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Xiqu Centre, highly acclaimed performing groups from Mainland China and Hong Kong will be invited to perform. In the Grand Theatre, the programme features Birthday Celebration by Five Daughters (Peking Opera), a joyous production by the famed China National Peking Opera Company, along with familiar and brand-new works by local troupes Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association, Canto Op, Ming Chee Sing Chinese Opera and more. In the Tea House Theatre, four emerging local playwrights offer new perspectives on a heritage art form with an exciting showcase of experimental, black box-style Cantonese opera works. Two exciting productions of the WestK Creators Series in early 2024
The WestK Creators Series, a new performance series celebrating contemporary Hong Kong artists and performance across a variety of contexts and forms, presents an exciting programme of innovative original work by local artists working across dance, theatre, music and multimedia. Curated and produced by the Contemporary Performance Team of WKCD’s Performing Arts Division, the series encourages exchange and collaboration and nurtures experimentation – celebrating contemporary performance through a programme of new and in-progress works, workshops and sharing sessions, and offering bold new perspectives for the Hong Kong performing arts scene. In Janu – Mar 2024, the WestK Creators Series will collaborate with local mid-career theatre companies and present two exciting productions— Rooftop Productions’ Songs of Innocence and Experience and Reframe Theatre’s Post Office in Hell Part 1. WestK x Rooftop Productions: Songs of Innocence and Experience in Jan to Feb 2024 Devised and created by Rooftop Productions and the young artists of HKAPA’s School of Drama, Songs of Innocence and Experience presents the stories of a group of young people coming of age in contemporary Hong Kong. First staged at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2022, the production has been developed and adapted for The Box at Freespace. The new production features a revised script, original and new ensemble and band members, and enhanced scenography and projection design.

WestK x Reframe Theatre: Post Office in Hell Part 1 in Mar 2024 Adapted for the stage from Hong Kong web fiction author westwingmoon’s suspense and heartwarming novel Hell Post Office, Post Office in Hell is an immersive theatre production that invites the audience to take part in an existential meditation on life, death, and the forever goodbye. This performance in Mar 2024 marks the first phase of the research and development of the project. A full-scale presentation is scheduled to take place at Freespace in September 2024.

WestK Fun Fest brings families together through art performances, large-scale outdoor installations and workshops
Between Mar and Apr 2024, WKCDA will launch our new annual event for the family – WestK Fun Fest – an inclusive arts festival celebrating creativity and diversity. Designed to spark the imagination and ignite the senses, the three week-long festival offers a programme of free and ticketed participatory events by local and international artists and is perfect for families of all constellations. Events take place at various spaces around the Art Park, Freespace and the Xiqu Centre and include one-of-a-kind experiences, art installations and performances, dance parties, hands-on workshops, playgrounds, storytelling and a signature immersive art installation in the Art Park.
