A Call for Collaboration: Flamenco, Orchestras & Choirs

Join Flamenco Agency on their tour in 2025 

2023 was an incredible year for Flamenco Agency. With a large number of collaborations with AAPPAC members, such as those in Thailand and the Philippines, and even with a recent mention by Yvonne Tham at the 75th ISPA congress in Perth, Australia in May 2024, it was undeniably a year full of success.  

The main focus this year will be to showcase Barcelona Flamenco Ballet’s rendition of Bizet’s Carmen to the world due to the opera’s exciting 150th anniversary in 2025. The agency, based in Seville, Spain, already has plans set to perform Carmen all over Europe for their tour which will premiere in 2024 summer (have a look at the calendar), and would love to bring it to Asia in order to inspire a worldwide celebration of Carmen!  

The beauty of this performance is that it is so adaptable depending on the venue and the possible local symphony orchestra and choir collaboration. Carmen’s collaborations with orchestras are always very popular with audiences, as evidenced by Saaremaa Opera Festival in Jul 2024 where the Carmen with orchestra performance  was sold out far in advance!

Alongside this spectacular anniversary celebration, Flamenco Agency will be returning to Asia with Rafaela Carrasco towards the end of 2025 between Sep to Oct. As a Spanish National Dance Award winner, she will be bringing this cultural art-form from Spain to Thailand.  

Rafaela Carrasco will be performing her incredibly mesmerising show, Nocturna. This production proposes a dance, music and poetry exploration of the great topics and contradictions of the night– it is truly a captivating performance inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s music.  

In order to fulfil their commitments to sustainability, Flamenco Agency would be very interested in turning this performance into a small Asia tour with the AAPPAC members community!  

Rafaela Carrasco – Nocturna

Furthermore, in just as exciting news, 2025 will be the year when the Flamenco rendition of Shakespeare’s iconic play, Hamlet, makes its premiere in Asia. This production is an incredibly unique and exciting experience for all as it is the first time that a Shakespeare play has been turned into a Flamenco performance. 

They have already had many successful performances of this play-turned-Flamenco performance, such as at Gdansk Shakespeare Festival, and in Craiova, Romania for the International Shakespeare Festival which forms part of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network.  

Now, Flamenco Agency is delighted to finally tour Hamlet around Asia, starting in China. Hamlet is always elevated when performed alongside a choir and, therefore, it calls for collaborations with local choirs within the AAPPAC community. As always, the agency would love to spread Shakespeare Flamenco to nearby countries to maintain sustainability efforts.

Here is the schedule for the exciting Carmen European Tour 2024 so far: 

  • 27 – 28 Jun: Opera Aperta Festival in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) 
  • 17 Nov:  VIFTEN, Copenhagen (Denmark)
