SCCC appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Mr Alvin Tan is appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) with effect from 3 June 2024. Alvin was a member of SCCC’s Board of Directors since its inception in 2016 up till 2024. During his tenure as a Board Director, he chaired the Programmes Committee and was a member of the Media & Marketing Committee and Research Advisory Panel.  

Prior to this appointment, Alvin was Deputy Chief Executive (Policy & Community) of National Heritage Board (NHB). At NHB, he oversaw strategies, policies, operations and projects pertaining to heritage policy and research, National Monuments and heritage sites (including UNESCO), intangible cultural heritage, archaeology, the National Collection, collections care and management, community outreach and education, volunteer engagement, NHB’s three heritage institutions (comprising Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, Malay Heritage Centre and Indian Heritage Centre), Museum Roundtable, heritage grants, language campaigns as well as international relations. Alvin also oversaw the development of Singapore’s first ever Our SG Heritage Plan which was launched in 2018 and played a key role in Our SG Heritage Plan 2.0 which was launched in 2023.  

Alvin is currently a member of the Singapore Writers Festival Advisory Panel, the Singapore Chinese Music Competition Advisory Committee and the Stewards of Intangible Cultural Heritage Award Evaluation Panel. He has also contributed commentaries and articles to The Straits Times, Cultural Connections, ICHCAP’s ichLinks and ICOM Voices.

I hope to build on the strong foundations laid by past CEOs, energise the centre and team, and work closely with the SCCC Board to propel SCCC forward in the next stage of its journey. I would like the centre to be a vibrant showcase of our rich and diverse Chinese Singaporean culture; a learning space for Chinese, non-Chinese and new immigrants to find out more about and to experience Chinese Singaporean culture; and a community hub that welcomes and connects anyone who is interested in or has a love for Chinese arts, culture and heritage.”
