Busan Concert Hall Opens: Asia’s New Stage for Classical Excellence

The much-anticipated Busan Concert Hall officially opens its doors in Busan, South Korea on 20 Jun 2025, heralding a new era for classical music in Busan and beyond. Located within the scenic Busan Citizens Park, this purpose-built classical music venue aspires to become a beacon of artistic excellence and cultural exchange in Asia.
At the heart of the hall lies a magnificent pipe organ, consisting of 4,423 pipes, meticulously crafted by the acclaimed German organ builder Freiburger Orgelbau. The venue boasts two performance spaces: a 2,011-seat Concert Hall and a 400-seat Chamber Hall, both equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and performance technology to provide musicians and audiences with an immersive and emotionally inspiring musical experience.

Under the artistic direction of globally renowned conductor Myung-Whun Chung, Busan Concert Hall aims to foster a musical ecosystem that transcends borders. Maestro Chung has expressed a strong commitment to developing Busan into a central hub of classical music in Asia, envisioning the city as a meeting place for music lovers from around the world.
Opening Festival Highlights (21–28 June)
To celebrate its grand opening, Busan Concert Hall hosted an eight-day Opening Festival from 21 to 28 June, presenting a diverse lineup of performances that reflect the venue’s ambition and artistic vision:
21 Jun: Myung-Whun Chung conducts the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, “Choral,” delivering a powerful message of unity and hope.
22 Jun: Violinist Aleksey Igudesman and pianist Hyung-ki Joo bring a lively concert designed for families to experience the joy of classical music together.
22 Jun: Pianist Seong-Jin Cho and organist Jae-Hyuck Cho unite in the “Emperor & Organ” concert, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 ‘Emperor’ and Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3 ‘Organ’.
23 Jun: Pianist Yekwon Sunwoo joins APO members in “Beethoven and Romanticism.”
24 Jun: In “The Flow of Classic,” Maestro Chung returns to the stage as a pianist, guiding audiences through a reflective program exploring the evolution of classical music.
27-28 Jun: A concert version of Beethoven’s only opera, ‘Fidelio,’ titled “Freedom Through Love: Fidelio,” will be performed twice, emphasizing themes of harmony and peace, rooted in a deep sense of humanity.

Busan Concert Hall aims to become more than a world-class concert venue—it aspires to be a cultural landmark that bridges Korea and the world. Through collaborations with leading artists, international festivals, and cultural institutions, the hall seeks to establish itself as a vibrant hub for global artistic exchange. By engaging with AAPPAC members and other global partners, Busan Concert Hall seeks to contribute meaningfully to the evolving classical music platform in the Asia-Pacific region.
