LG Arts Center’s flagship production The Cherry Orchard, directed and adapted by Simon Stone, begins its international journey in Asia — marking the start of a global tour. Following its 19 – 21 Sept 2025 run at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre as the opening programme of the Asia+ Festival, the production travels to Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore, for three performances from 7 – 9 Nov 2025.
This momentum builds on the work’s landmark Korean premiere at LG Arts Center Seoul (Jun–Jul 2024), which welcomed over 40,000 audience members across 30 performances with an average 95% seat occupancy. Although the adaptation relocates Chekhov’s classic to contemporary Korea, its themes resonate far beyond national borders. The production’s monumental stage architecture evokes the unseen underside of history, while the family’s story – set against a changing ‘cherry orchard’ – traces layers of modern experience that speak to audiences living in every corner of the world. From its announcement, that universality drew strong attention from festival directors and theatres worldwide; the production now meets new audiences across Asia with the same ensemble that ignited its Seoul success.

Simon Stone’s adaptation brings questions of class, inheritance, and social change into sharp, present-day focus. The production is the result of intimate collaboration between a world-renowned writer/director and leading Korean artists: Doyeon Jeon, Haesoo Park, Sangkyu Son, Moon Choi, Jihye Lee, Yunho Nam, Byunghoon Yoo, Yurim Park, Sejun Lee and Juwon Lee. The original company tours internationally as one ensemble. The staging is defined by an architectural set concept by Saul Kim, with music by Youngkyu Jang, realised through a deeply collaborative process that bridges international and Korean creative voices.
The Cherry Orchard reflects LG Arts Center’s evolving artistic vision, specifically its commissioning and producing strand, through which original works are created and toured in collaboration with Korean and international artists. This tour exemplifies how a Korean-led creative process, in dialogue with international partners, can yield theatre that is locally grounded yet globally legible. The tour continues in 2026 with invitations from multiple cities; the full 2026 tour lineup will be announced in early 2026.
