Legends of Singapore Comedy: An Exhibition on Wang Sha & Ye Feng

Wang Sha and Ye Feng were iconic comedians in Singapore who brought laughter to audiences from the 1930s to the 1990s. This special exhibition offers a captivating journey through their illustrious careers, highlighting their contributions to Singapore’s entertainment scene. 

Explore their early getai performances, showcasing their talents in acrobatics, crosstalk, and stage acts. Discover their 1960s rise to fame as beloved television icons, known as the Television Duo, pioneering outdoor comedy filming. Experience their 1970s film career in Hong Kong, reflecting everyday aspirations. Follow their return in the 1980s and 1990s to Singapore and Malaysia, continuing to charm audiences and inspire future comedians with Mandarin performances. 

This exhibition features interactive displays and cherished artefacts, including their iconic Old Master Q costume and Star Awards trophy, offering a unique glimpse into the lives and legacies of Wang Sha and Ye Feng. Celebrate their enduring impact on Singapore’s comedy landscape and relive the golden era of local entertainment.  

The exhibition will be on display at SCCC Level 1 (Concourse  and lift lobby) from 6 Jul to 5 Nov 2024. 

Desire to Scrawl: A Comics Art Exhibition

Based on Drawn to Satire, the first comic book about cartoonists in Singapore by Lim Cheng Tju and Koh Hong Teng, Desire to Scrawl is an exhibition on the art of the book. Curated by Lim Cheng Tju, it presents the stories of the eight prominent cartoonists featured – Tchang Ju Chi, Liu Kang, Shamsuddin H Akib, Koeh Sia Yong, Lim Mu Hue, Morgan Chua, Dai Yin Lang and Kwan Shan Mei. This exhibition explores their lives and experiences through cartoons, reflecting the political upheaval and changing times during the 60s. 

The exhibition will be on display at SCCC Level 9 and 10 Foyers from now till 31 Oct 2024. 

Puppet Show: Journey West – Mount Fiery

Have you ever watched a puppet show in a ‘manual cinema’ format, to see the magic through video cameras and projectors? Here’s your chance! Commissioned by the SCCC, renowned Singapore puppet theatre company Paper Monkey Theatre will be staging Journey West: Mount Fiery from 30 Aug to 1 Sept 2024 in this new format.  

Journey West: Mount Fiery brings to life the beloved Chinese classic novel that illustrates values cherished by the Chinese. Follow familiar characters Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujin and more as they strive to extinguish the flames of Mount Fiery and smoothly continue their journey to the West.

Ticket prices: $24, $26, and $30 (tickets can be purchased via SISTIC)

Mid-Autumn Family FUN 2024

Jointly organised by the SCCC and Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Mid-Autumn Family FUN invites everyone to celebrate Mid-Autumn traditions with a modern twist at the cultural hub in the heart of CBD. The event will be held from 6 to 8 Sept 2024 with a series of activities specially curated for families and children. Highlights include stargazing activities, planetarium shows, guided lantern walks, children theatre performances, Chinese orchestra concert and craft workshops. Visitors will also get to enjoy free mooncake and Chinese tea tasting at the SCCC Concourse and learn more about the stories of Mid-Autumn through fun and interactive games!
