Suntory Hall 40th Anniversary GALA Concert

Suntory Hall 40th Anniversary GALA Concert

featuring Riccardo Muti, Mitsuko Uchida & Wiener Philharmoniker

31 Oct & 1 Nov 2026

Suntory Hall hosts its 40th Anniversary GALA Concert on 31 Oct and 1 Nov 2026.

Since the opening of Suntory Hall in 1986, Suntory Hall Gala Concert has been held every five years to mark these anniversary milestones. It is a special event in the autumn classical music season, when Suntory Hall is filled with a particularly festive atmosphere. This year, as the hall celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic) will perform, just as they did for the 30th anniversary. Stepping onto the conductor’s podium is maestro Riccardo Muti, who has collaborated with the Wiener Philharmoniker for 55 years, and the soloist is pianist Mitsuko Uchida, Suntory Hall Associate Artist.

The highlight of this performance is the collaboration of Mitsuko Uchida and the Wiener Philharmoniker in Japan, their first since 1997. Following her profound and lyrical performance of Beethoven’s three late piano sonatas at Suntory Hall in 2025, she is sure to bring out the brilliance of his Piano Concerto No. 4. The programme also includes Hikaru Hayashi’s Three Film Scores, in which the spirit of Vienna and Japan will resonate with one another. It promises to be a special occasion.

In order that the guests to experience the festive atmosphere fully, this event requires semi-formal or cocktail attire.
