Freespace Noise Fest: Otomo Yoshihide, Senyawa
On 6 Aug 2024, Freespace Noise Fest will wrap up with a powerful finale double bill in The Box showcasing two leading names in experimental music – Japanese multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide and Indonesian duo Senyawa.
Opening the finale programme, Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide will perform a raw free improvisation set on turntable and guitar.
In the second session, Yogyakarta-based duo Senyawa, a band at the forefront of Indonesian contemporary music, will perform tracks from their latest album Vajranala. Blending Rully Shabara’s vocals – a mix of Indonesian folk, throat singing, death metal and shamanistic howls – with the frenetic punctuation of Wukir Suryadi’s unique handcrafted instrumentation, their unique sound will bring Freespace Noise Fest to an exhilarating end.

WestK x On & On Theatre Workshop: With Love, Medea’s Boys
This August, WestK x On & On Theatre Workshop present With Love, Medea’s Boys – a poignant reflection on grief, destiny and contemporary spirituality.
Co-directed and co-written by emerging theatre makers Miu Law and Sham Chung-tat and started with the 2023 work-in-progress presentation, With Love, Medea’s Boys takes the classical Greek tragedy Medea as a starting point to explore the world of the afterlife through the eyes of Medea’s sons, following them as they shape their new world and learn about sacrifice, dignity, and destiny.
The collaborative production is performed by child and adult actors. Unfolding like a dark fairy tale – with the protagonists joined by a chorus of voices from children in parallel worlds – it weaves fact and fiction with elements of devised theatre, improvisational games and multimedia visuals, immersing the audience in a world where conventional adult wisdom is suspended.

WestK x Reframe Theatre: Post Office in Hell – The Origin
Post Office in Hell – The Origin, a new collaboration between novelist Westwingmoon and playwright-director Yan Pat-to, co -presented and co-produced by WestK and Reframe Theatre, will be showcased at The Box, Freespace in Sep 2024.
Revisiting the story that opened with Post Office in Hell (Part 1) in Mar 2024, Post Office in Hell – The Origin tells the story of postman Nam Mun-leung – an individual gifted with the ability to travel between worlds and deliver letters to loved ones in the afterlife. As he journeys back and forth between the living and the dead, Nam witnesses the remorse of his clients. Forced to confront his own personal issues, he navigates how to save himself, his family and his significant other.
The production combines Westwingmoon’s insight into the funeral industry with Yan Pat-to’s creative experience of theatre in Hong Kong and Germany, exploring an innovative approach to storytelling that walks the audience on a path through life and death.
