Dewan Filharmonik Petronas presents exciting concerts from Oct – Dec 24
Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the middle of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, will present exciting concerts from October to November 2024, celebrating music excellence and embracing the vibrancy of all music genres that grace the stage.
Next, renowned pianist Angela Hewitt will lead the MPO from her piano bench on 5 October. London Times reviewed Hewitt’s concert and wrote, “… the freshness of Hewitt’s playing made it sound as though no one had played this music before.” An exciting programme comprising works composed by Bach and Mozart awaits the audience.
Talented blind Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii will dazzle with his unique artistry on 12 October. He will present Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 in his debut at DFP. Other works to be performed by the MPO are Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Sleeping Beauty and Prokofiev’s Symphony No.7. Brazil-born Eduardo Strausser will conduct this concert.

Experience an exciting classical crossover when the MPO performs 18th century Baroque classical music combined with The Beatlebenjs’ timeless tunes in a concert themed Beatles Go Baroque on 26 October. Under the baton of Gerard Salonga, enjoy a dose of Beatles classics such as I Want to Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, Penny Lane, Yellow Submarine, Something, Hey Jude and Here Comes the Sun, a true showcase of the MPO’s versatility.

The MPO continues to enthrall in a concert themed Romantic Rendezvous on 2 November. Conductor Michal Nesterowicz, a familiar face to the MPO audience, will weave his magic in a programme that consists of Tchaikovsky’s much loved Swan Lake Suite. The concert will feature talented Singaporean violinist Chloe Chua who will present Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No.2.

The next installment of the Generasi DFP is scheduled on 20 November. It will feature young talents such as Mardiana, Jo Lixian, Khalyn Mulyani and bands such as Sounds Like Sunday and Meruked. The artists will definitely bring a different dimension of the future of local music in their debut concert at DFP.
For the first time in its 26th year establishment, DFP will present a stand-up comedy show. In line with DFP’s initiative to broaden its audience demographic, the DFP Punchline slot will feature comedian/actor Douglas Lim on 22 and 23 November. Douglas will take his audiences through a comedic adventure in a parallel universe that pokes fun and sees us laughing at ourselves right from the concert hall.
Conductor Benjamin Bayl returns to the DFP podium after his last concert with the MPO in 2019. This time he will bring a selection of intriguing classical music on 30 November. Malaysia-born artist Ibrahim Aziz will demonstrate his unique artistry on the six-string viola da gamba through works composed by Telemann and Fiala. The MPO will also present Mozart’s Symphony No.39 and Bach’s Symphony in D.
