Dance Piece / Theater Piece “Dance Jurors’ Dance”

Aichi Prefectural Art Theater will present Dance Piece / Theater Piece “Dance Jurors’ Dance” from 19 – 21 Sep at Aichi Prefectural Art Theater’s Mini Theater.

Written and directed by leading contemporary theatre artist Toshiki Okada, this ambitious performance elegantly blurs the lines between dance and theatre. It captures the thinking space created by the intersection of the human body and language.

The performance features Hana Sakai and Yasutake Shimaji, resident dance artists at Aichi Prefectural Art Theater, alongside talented dancers such as Megumi Nakamura and Anna Irite, actor Makoto Yazawa and an emerging musician Utena Kobayashi. Inspired by the action of judgement, the performance expands the concept of body, its evaluation and ownership, provoking audiences to change their viewpoints unexpectedly.

Dance Jurors’ Dance is a co-production of Aichi Prefectural Art Theater and Performing Arts Festival: Autumn Meteorite Tokyo. It will premiere at Aichi Prefectural Art Theater in Sep 2025, with subsequent performances in Tokyo as part of the festival, followed by tours to Kochi, Ueda, and Kitakyushu.

The general producer is Eri Karatsu, Artistic Director of Aichi Prefectural Art Theater. Don’t miss this 80-minute cutting-edge, genre-defying creation, which began with a dialogue between Toshiki and Eri.
