Dewan Filharmonik Petronas: Exciting Concerts Await you in Quarter 3 of 2026

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the middle of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, continues to dazzle its patrons and music lovers with an array of exciting concerts. Q3 of 2026 will continue to witness concert presentations that cater to a diverse range of music tastes and preferences.

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present a concert themed Jazz, Classical & Beyond With The MPO on 13 Jun. To be led by its Music Director, Junichi Hirokami, the MPO will present jazz-infused works such as Haydn’s Symphony No. 100 – ‘Military’, Duke Ellington’s Caravan, Schubert’s Symphony No.5 and Kapustin’s Piano Concerto No. 4. (collaborating with pianist Frank Dupree).

Next, the MPO will present an evocative soundscape on 20 Jun. A work by Rautavaraa, Cantus Arcticus features haunting calls of the arctic birds while Mozart’s delightful Flute Concerto No.2 will feature flutist Jasmine Choi, before the concert closes with Brahms’ triumphant Symphony No.2, bringing a journey of emotions and nature to a rousing closure. In conjunction with the ASEAN Youth Orchestra Festival Kuala Lumpur 2026, DFP will present a concert showcasing the talents of young musicians from ASEAN countries on 27 Jun. The ASEAN Youth Orchestra will dazzle with classical masterpieces such as Williams’ energetic Olympic Fanfare And Theme, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini and Mahler’s Symphony No.1 (nicknamed The Titan). To be helmed by MPO Resident Conductor, Gerard Salonga, the concert will also feature pianist Celestine Yoong Qian Yi.

An exciting concert themed Metropolitan Rhythms: The Emigree And The American is scheduled on 18 Jul. Dazzle with the virtuosity of Makoto Ozone on the piano when he performs Gershwin’s Concerto in F with the MPO. Conductor Aziz Shokhakimov will also lead the MPO to present Weil’s Symphonic Nocturne, taken from the Broadway hit Lady In The Dark, and the concert finale, Stravinsky’s explosive Petrushka. Guaranteed an electrifying night with the MPO!

Fans of cultural heritage will be beguiled in a unique offering titled Mak Yong Shakespeare: The Comedy Of Errors. Don’t miss a rare mash-up reimagined through Kelantan’s centuries-old dance theatre. Laugh hard and enjoy a visual feast through the resplendent costumes in a showcase helmed by theatre doyenne Norzizi Zulkifli featuring actors Rosdeen Suboh, Vanidah Imran and Juhara Ayub. Lock 25 Jul for a colourful night of Malaysian splendour at DFP.

The MPO returns to DFP to present a dose of Tchaikovsky music on 22 Aug. Junichi Hirokami will return to the DFP podium to lead the tragic and   powerful Pathetique. Prior to that, young German-Spanish-Malaysian violinist Elias David Moncado will illuminate his brilliance to present the lyrical beauty of a violin concerto with the MPO.

Junichi Hirokami will next lead the MPO in a concert themed A Knight’s Tale: Valor And Romance In Music on 29 Aug. Soak in a classical splendour with Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor featuring Colombian cellist Santiago Canon-Valencia, hailed as “a virtuoso of outstanding versatility” by The Violin Channel. Then, the MPO will enthrall its audience with Walton’s poignant Touch Her Soft Lips And Part taken from the 1944 film of Shakespeare’s Henry V, before the concert closes with Schumann’s Symphony No.2.

The MPO continues to pay tribute to local icons, this time to jazz legend Alfonso Soliano on 2 Sep. Celebrate Malaysian heritage as the MPO presents the legacy of a visionary pianist, arranger and conductor who has shaped the jazz landscape of the music industry. Under the baton of Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, the concert will feature The Solianos as vocalists and instrumentalists.

In line with its ongoing initiative to provide a platform for cultural preservation, DFP will present a dance contemporary showcase entitled Yin & Yang: A Dance Kaleidoscope on 5 Sep. Witness ASK Dance Company and Dua Space Dance Theatre in a powerful double bill that reflects the transformative spirit of the dance. The performance will be presented in two parts: Hang Li Po will reimagine the tale of a legendary Chinese princess while Passage Into The Unknown: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind is a poetic meditation on our connection to the nature world.

Yin & Yang

Conductor and recorder player Maurice Steger will lead the MPO in a concert on 12 Sep. Discover Baroque’s era playful side in this witty and imaginative celebration of music featuring works by Telemann and Vivaldi. Enjoy the other side of the MPO as you have never seen before!

Calling all parents and children! The MPO’s next offering is for you! Gerard Salonga returns to the DFP podium to helm a fun and light-hearted concert themed Vivaldi’s Ring Of Mystery on 19 Sep. Together with presenter Classical Kids Live!, the MPO will present a one-hour theatrical symphonic concert that aims to introduce the life and music of famous composer Vivaldi to young audience and families.
