Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), Kuala Lumpur City Centre, will present a host of dazzling performances for the month of April, May and June 2018.

April kicks-off with the magnificent performances by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) on 6 and 7 Apr. Gilbert Varga will lead the MPO to conduct symphonic works by Sibelius, Milhaud and Kodaly, in concerts that will feature Latvian violinist Baiba Skride.

Skride will hold a recital on 8 Apr, presenting much loved violin works.

This will be followed by concerts themed Youthful Musical Adventures on 14 and 15 Apr. German-Japanese conductor Jun Märkl weaves magic on the MPO in a lively programme of vernal works by Debussy and Strauss. Pianist Melody Quah will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

Zany musicians Igudesman & Joo return to the DFP stage to present a unique programme on 20 and 21 Apr. Together with the MPO, the duo takes audiences on a madcap musical ride from Ravel to rock. This will be the duo’s third performance on the stage after their concerts in 2009 and 2014.

The Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) will present Springtime Serenades on 22 Apr. Naohisa Furusawa will lead the ensemble.

Cirque de la Symphonie returns to the DFP stage on 5 and 6 May. Fresh from its successful collaboration with the MPO in 2015, this amazing production will bring the magic of cirque to the concert hall with an exciting adaptation of artistic performances widely seen in arenas and theatres around the world.

MPO will present family-themed concerts on 13 May. Kevin Hathway will ‘teach’ the audience on how to build a band with the aid of popular works.

Concerts themed Heavenly Mahler follows on 19 and 20 May. Roberto Abbado returns to lead the MPO through masterpieces by Mahler, Barber and Wagner. Soprano Lauren Snouffer will be featured in these concerts.

Fans of anime music should not miss the MPO’s offerings from 25 to 27 May. MPO’s Japanese conductor Naohisa Furusawa takes centrestage in concerts that feature music from various anime productions. Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur Children’s Chorus will add colours to the presentations.

Another family-themed concert come next; Maximus Musicus Visits The Orchestra is scheduled on 3 Jun.

Joshua Bell

Renowned violin virtuoso Joshua Bell dazzles his fans and audience on 9 and 10 Jun. He presents the brilliant Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 together with the MPO. British conductor Mark Wigglesworth will lead the MPO to present Bruckner’s majestic Symphony No.7.
