Young Audience Programmes – 21 to 29 Jul
NTT has planned a series of programmes for young audiences and the families in July. Begin with the fun and brilliant contemporary Taiwanese opera The Little Deputy of Sun Dynasty 2 by the Feng Shen Bao Bao Troupe. The troupe focuses on creating works for young audience, which combines the traditional themes and modern theatre perspectives. The audience will also be introduced to a unique, futuristic mechanical opera, Gulliver’s Dream, performed by animated marionettes. The work was created by the German artist Roland Olbeter, who specialises in set design and robotic art, and also the long-term collaborator with the world-famous theatre group La Fura dels Baus from Spain. Olbeter was inspired by Irish author Jonathan Swift’s work, Gulliver’s Travels. He made use of automated machinery to control specially made marionettes. They are lifelike, but also of childlike imagination with the music recorded by opera singers and robot musicians.
