DFP & MPO’S 21ST SEASON KICKS-OFF IN JANUARY 2019!

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) embarks on its 21st season in January with a variety of enticing music offerings.

The MPO will kick-off 2019 with a new year celebration in true Viennese style. Themed New Year’s Waltz, the MPO will present exciting works of Strauss, Rossini, Dvorak and Lehar. The concerts are scheduled on 5 and 6 Jan. Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga will lead the MPO.

Salonga returns to the podium to weave magic with the MPO in concerts featuring grandeur German masterpieces on 13 Jan. Featuring works by Weber, Mendelssohn and Beethoven, the concerts will witness the MPO’s collaboration with pianist Llyr Williams.

Fans of Mahler’s works should not miss the MPO concerts on 19 and 20 Jan. Russian maestro Stanislav Kochanovsky will conduct this musical journey, from dark turmoil to joyous optimism.

Kochanovsky will next conduct the MPO in concerts themed Queen Of Spades on 26, 27 and 29 Jan. These concerts will feature singers Tatiana Pavlovskaya, Irina Shishkova and Eduard Martynyuk, among others.

The MPO will present The Romantic Violin on 13 Feb whereby it will present works by Sarasate, Haydn and Mozart, under the baton of Alexander Briger. Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai returns to perform with the MPO in this special concert held in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan.

Masterpieces by Bates, Li and Brahms will be the look of the programme for the next MPO concerts scheduled on 16 and 17 Feb. Rossen Milanov will conduct the MPO with his inimitable intensity while cellist Joshua Roman will enthrall his new fans here in his debut concert at DFP.

Fans of Harry Potter music should not miss the family-themed concerts by the MPO on 24 Feb. Magician Chase Lew will join the fun with his tricks galore while Naohisa Furusawa will wave his wand on the MPO in concerts themed Harry Potter – Imperium Musicus.

A chamber concert on 26 Feb will entertain audience with a mix of classical and contemporary music.
