West Australian Ballet To Feature In Manila

Australia’s oldest ballet Company, West Australian Ballet have a strong history of touring acclaimed performances both nationally (in Western Australia and country-wide) and internationally. 2019 will be no different as they feature at both the 50th Anniversary of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), as a part of the Manila International Performing Arts Market (MIPAM) showcase and at the AAPPAC Annual Conference.

West Australian Ballet Soloist Candice Adea, (who was born in the Philippines and became a Principal dancer of Ballet Philippines at just 18 years old, and became the first Filipino winner of the Helsinki International Ballet Competion), will partner with talented Cuban Demi-Soloist Julio Blanes.

They will perform the spectacular grand pas de deux from the pirate ballet Le Corsaire, and a pas de deux from Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella, Principal Ballet Mistress & Artistic Associate Sandy Delasalle and former West Australian Ballet & Sydney Dance Company dancer David Mack’s conceptual work In-Synch.

In-Synch set audiences alight at West Australian Ballet’s well-known Ballet at the Quarry 2019, as an improvised work set to one of four random pieces of music, chosen only minutes before the performance. Adea and Blanes, both highly experienced performers, will strategise but improvise to the randomly selected track while in Manila.

With two performances in the main theatre of the CCP for the 50th Anniversary, and one performance in CCP’s Black Box Theater for MIPAM, the works are sure to impress the international audience.

Along with the excerpt performances, West Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella and Executive Director Jessica Machin will attend the Association of the Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres (AAPPAC) Annual Conference, bringing West Australian Ballet’s highly touted touring ability to front of mind for Performing Arts Centres in the region.

West Australian Ballet’s Executive Director Jessica Machin is excited about the Company’s position in the Indo-Pacific region, commenting on a potential multi-city tour to the People’s Republic of China in 2020.

“With a strong troupe of nearly 40 world-class dancers, West Australian Ballet has the potential to perform our large Classical and strongly physical Contemporary works throughout the region,” states Machin.

“With our current preparations for a 2020 tour of the hauntingly beautiful Giselle to China, which has been an audience favourite in Perth,” Machin continues, “West Australian Ballet are not only Australia’s oldest professional dance company, but also one of the most celebrated and versatile.”

With two Contemporary seasons and three Classical/Neo-Classical productions performed in West Australian Ballet’s hometown of Perth, the dancers will have no issue in changing between the two styles across the three performances.

West Australian Ballet, with the support from their International Touring Agent Kristopher McDowell, will perform on 20 and 21 Sep in the CCP Main Theater for the 50th Anniversary Gala, and on 21 Sep in the Black Box Theater for the Manila International Performing Arts Market as a part of the Manila International Performing Arts Summit.
