SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture

Curious about what exactly is Singaporean Chinese culture? The newly opened SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture Exhibition at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre encourages visitors to embark on their own journey of cultural discovery through different aspects of our daily living, such as food, music and the way we speak.

Spread across five specially curated zones, SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture traces how our heritage, cultural interactions, and public policies have shaped a distinctive Chinese Singaporean identity. In this innovative exhibition, visitors can use a personalised radio-frequency identification (RFID) wristband to interact with the displays and produce a customised report of their visit as a souvenir.

Take a peep through the windows of a Singaporean home

Uncover our shared values that have been passed on across generations. As values are transmitted through the family, this exhibition zone is set within a typical HDB flat. You will also find old-school window grilles, letter boxes and doors collected from actual shop houses and flats around Singapore.

Where food and culture collide

Know how to order drinks at a kopitiam stall in Singapore using its ‘secret codes’? Challenge your kopi-making prowess in an intensive table game showdown of speed and accuracy. Learn more about the origins of your favourite local dish such as Hainanese chicken rice and chilli crab through an immersive multimedia showcase.

The zone spotlights many familiar brands and individuals in a uniquely “moving” presentation!
