Kick start the new year with a refreshing dose of Chinese culture at SCCC

In the past few months, the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) has expanded its online reach through engaging digital content on local Chinese culture. As we move into 2021, the Centre looks forward to welcoming visitors back to its building, and will kick start the year with two exciting activities. 

Usher in the new year with Asia’s first drive-through art exhibition

SCCC will transform its carpark into Asia’s first drive-through exhibition Moo Moo PARK this Chinese New Year. Taking place from 22 January to 28 March 2021, the Centre has teamed up  with The MeshMinds Foundation to offer an immersive experience by blending local Chinese culture with art and technology. To celebrate the Year of the Ox, eight local artists will present original artworks based on the symbolism of the ox in Chinese culture. Their works will be enhanced with augmented reality to provide visitors with a different dimension to enjoy these creations.

As an exhibition that can be enjoyed on foot or electric car, Moo Moo PARK also casts a ‘green’ spotlight on sustainability issues. Each artwork will address one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, thereby creating greater awareness about the environmental impact of globalisation, and how we can all play a part to create a more sustainable future.

RE.MIX Youth Festival returns, with its first hybrid edition

Following the success of its inaugural launch last year, RE.MIX 2k21 returns with its first hybrid edition over two weekends from 15 to 24 January 2021. RE.MIX aims to be a platform for youths to re-imagine our culture from new perspectives. Offering both online and onsite events, the series of youth-centric programmes include an Instagram-worthy exhibition, fashion competition, silent music parties, escape-room games, craft workshops and many more! Here are some of the activities that should not to be missed:

All Walks of Love interactive exhibition

This exhibition explores how love plays a part in Chinese Singaporean culture. With its OOTD-worthy backdrops and cultural icons such as giant red eggs for a baby’s full-moon celebration to see-saws that signify friendships forged in our childhood, this interactive experience is set to evoke fond memories.

Online dance performances and workshops

Featuring local Chinese dance artist Jenny Neo and YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo, dance enthusiasts are in for a treat with RE•MIX the Dance Livestream. Watch Singapore’s young talents as they face off against each other in a dance battle from the comforts of your own homes. Participants can also sign up for RE•MIX the Dance Workshop for tips on how Chinese moves and music can be used in contemporary dance styles.

New series featuring popular online personalities

SCCC will be working with popular social media platform SGAG to present a series of variety show-inspired online programmes called SGAG Night ‘Live’ @ RE•MIX. Featuring well-loved SGAG personalities such as Xiao Ming and Pam, audiences can expect an evening of laughs as they compete against each other in a series of high-stakes games that will test their knowledge of Chinese Singaporean culture.
