Australian Performing Arts Exchange (APAX) is the most significant annual gathering of performing arts professionals in Australia, providing the connections, professional development, and opportunities that deliver the performing arts across the country. In 2021, it celebrates its 7th year as a market and 34th year as a conference!
APAX is proudly presented by PAC Australia, the national peak body representing and supporting performing arts presenters and creators in Australia by providing leadership, building capacity, and facilitating relationships that strengthen the connection between the art and the audience.
For the first time, delegates will be able to attend either in-person, or online, and all international delegates are welcome.
We know there is a lot of work to be done before our sector can confidently claim to be passed the pandemic. Which is why the theme of this year’s APAX is THRIVE. Our aim this year is to come together, to pause and relinquish the conversations about crisis and recovery so we can shift the focus from emergency to EMERGENCE. It is a time to come together and get excited about the possibilities and opportunities we now face, as individuals, as organisations and as a sector.

We are thrilled to be hosted in Sydney by NIDA – a powerhouse for the development of Australia’s creative and cultural sector, challenging current thinking and practice and producing innovators and leaders.
APAX 2021 will be filled with refreshing discussions about opportunity, inclusion, and new models of success and is broken up into 2 segments:
1. Arts Market – the best place to meet producers and presenters from around the world, to hear about Australian work available for tour and to talk about collaborations and partnerships.
The Arts Market will run from Monday – Wednesday, 6 – 8 Sep 2021.
2. Conference Program – brings together performing arts centre managers and staff and other major performing arts organisations for those long-awaited face-to-face networking opportunities and professional development programs.
The conference programme runs Thursday – Friday, 9 – 10 Sep 2021.
There are ticketing options available to attend either or both the Arts Market and Conference. You can join us in person – with your network in one place, at the one time or online – making 2021 our the most accessible APAX yet!
Whether it is to buy work, find creative or presenting partners, or build your network – APAX 2021 is the place to be.
