Treasures of the Clans

Treasures of the Clans Exhibition

Chinese clans have a significant and long history in Singapore These clans came together for the first time in the Treasures of the Clans exhibition, with over 80 exquisite paintings and calligraphy works renowned artists such as Lim Tze Peng and Xu Beihong.

2. Talents of Tomorrow Meets Veterans of Today 

Rediscovering Chinese Music

An exclusive performance only available in the CE22 online edition! Bringing together 10 veterans and 11 young musicians in the Chinese orchestral music scene in Singapore, Rediscovering Chinese Music will re-interpret forgotten musical pieces from the 1960s and 1970s. 

Starring prominent veterans such as Cultural Medallion recipient Phoon Yew Tien, home-grown music conductor Mike Chiang, up-and-coming musicians Tan Su Min Clara and Tan Su Hui Sophy of MUSA and more.

 For your eyes only — Butterfly Lovers Retold 

Butterfly Lovers

Originally staged by the late Cultural Medallion recipient Santha Bhaskar in 1958, the production recreates the classic Chinese tale of star-crossed lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, who were separated by unfortunate circumstances but eventually reuniting as a pair of butterflies. 

Choreographed by Mrs Bhaskar’s daughter, Meenakshy Bhaskar, the renowned Bhaskar’s Arts Academy will be showcasing a fresh take on this classic folktale production through a bharatanatyam lens. Infusing classical Chinese dance movements, this remake also features music compositions by world-renowned Rajkumar Bharathi, enriched by the ruan played by Neil Chua.
