Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is regarded as one of the leading orchestras in Asia.  Under the direction of Music Director Jaap van Zweden since 2012, it has toured Europe, Asia, Australia, and on numerous occasions to Mainland China. It won the prestigious UK classical music magazine Gramophone’s 2019 Orchestra of the Year Award – the first orchestra in Asia to receive this accolade.

The HK Phil announced programmes and collaborations with esteemed arts groups from September to December 2022 of its 2022/23 Season. An array of virtuoso guest artists will be featured including four premieres.

Raining Petals — An Orchestral Re-imagining: Floral Princess 65^th Anniversary Crossover Creation

The year 2022 shall witness the 65th anniversary of the famous Canto-opera classic Floral Princess, created by Tong Tik-sang.

Based on this classic, this brand-new orchestral re-imagining is complemented by the exquisite on-screen interpretation by renowned acting duo Yam Kim-fai and Pak Suet-sin. For this rendition under Directors-General duo Joseph Chan and Ip Ka-po with producer Maurice Lai, director Rex Ng weaves together text, video and audio, while composer Lee Che-yi pens an original symphonic poem. Lio Kuokman conducts the HK Phil in this world premiere.

Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra

The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) is the only professional Chinese Orchestra in Hong Kong founded in 1977. Apart from regular concerts and activities promoting arts education, HKCO launched the HKCO Net Concert Hall, the first ever online Chinese Music Gallery of a Chinese Orchestra in January 2022. With its motto From traditional roots to cutting-edge visionary. Embracing diversity and eclectic styles, HKCO is bringing a variety of music programmes including Chinese Music MV, full-length orchestral concerts, music pieces performed by full orchestra or ensemble, drum performances and behind the scenes etc. The One Hundred Chinese Music Classics Select is one of the featured series with an initiative to promote outstanding works in Chinese music, with more than a hundred ensemble, concert and chamber pieces selected by the artistic team of the HKCO.  Each Wednesday at 1700 HKT, an online concert will be uploaded.  Register now at www.hkconetconcerthall.com to enjoy a whole new audio-visual enjoyment of Chinese music.

Zuni Icosahedron

Leading Arts Tech theatre Zuni Icosahedron announces two exciting theatre experiences at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in the last quarter of the year, expanding the audiences’ spiritual imagination of the ancient Hua-Yen Sūtra with the latest stage technologies.

Debuting in October, immersive theatre Hua-Yen Buddhaverse will bring the audiences on a sensory journey to the Hua-yen Avatamasaka world via surprising sounds and images. The programme is an extension of the widely acclaimed Hua-Yen Sūtra, debuting in 2007. In November, the Hua-Yen Concert will reveal Insights of Interbeing through Sounds. It offers multiple interpretations of the ancient Siddhaṃ script through the art forms of singing, chanting, Cantonese Naamyam, and a live band playing Chinese and Western music, giving shape to the Hua-yen Avatamsaka world with a diversity of audio combinations.
