Weiwuying International Music Festival, Eun-me AHN, and Yuval PICK to Put on Display the World’s New Look in Music from April to June

As we break free from the bonds of Covid, artists are getting back on track with international shows in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. From April to June, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), will have three such programmes. The Weiwuying International Music Festival, for which renowned Korean composer Unsuk CHIN is serving as artistic director and curator, will give a new look to the festival through a new format and perspective. Then, two choreographers, Eun-me AHN from Korea and Yuval PICK from Israel, will respectively present their latest dance pieces, Dragons and Vocabulary of Need.

For this second year of the festival, CHIN has selected new and established performers to show us the latest in the global music realm. From 14 – 23 April, Weiwuying artistic director and conductor CHIEN Wen-pin, renowned conductor David ROBERTSON, and nearly a hundred other exceptional musicians will perform a slew of masterpieces from composers ranging from Mozart to Mahler. Moreover, the festival will see Taiwan’s first appearance of one of today’s most successful composers, Swedish Anders HILLBORG, and the performances of contest pieces written by young Taiwanese composers. Audiences are sure to enjoy this ten-day lesson on the history and evolution of music. 

AHN’s Dragons brings together six performers from different Asian countries but who were all born in 2000 (a Year of the Dragon) in a show with AHN’s own dance company that deeply explores the dynamic power of dance in searching for its new look. PICK, moved by the emotion in BACH’s Violin Concerto in D Minor, has tapped into the core of music in creating an eight-person dance piece that reinterprets the dialogue between dance and string music.
