Rain is a collaborative project initiated by Aichi Prefectural Art Theater and Dance Base Yokohama. In this project, three of Japan’s hottest artists – Ryu Suzuki, Shinji Ohmaki, and evala – gather for an exciting multidisciplinary collaboration across choreography, visual art, and music. Ohmaki’s installation Liminal Air – Black Weight overwhelms the stage and the eight dancers, evoking the story of Rain by William Somerset Maugham in this 70-minute spectacle.

Rain premiered in March 2023 and went on tour across Japan in August 2023 including New National Theatre, Tokyo. After receiving passionate responses from our premiere, the work will be presented in New Vision Arts Festival 2023 in Hong Kong from 10 – 12 November 2023 at Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Rain was pitched at the 2022 Connecting Series as part of the AAPPAC Conference in Singapore.
