A Celebration of Classical Music – Lambang Sari Series 2023

The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) will be presenting A Celebration of Classical Music for Lambang Sari Series (LSS) 2023, Istana Budaya with an orchestral concert themed on Western classical music. The orchestral concert consists of four series performances with well-known Western compositions.

Puan Zubaidah Mukhtar, the Director General of Istana Budaya, stated that “A Celebration of Classical Music will present the audience an orchestra performance, with music from Baroque and Classical eras to the Romantique era.”

Encik Nasran bin Nawi, the NSO Senior Principal cum Maestro intends to bring a difference in comparison to the previous LSS by featuring three soloists on different series and the string orchestra of NSO. “Interestingly, LSS 2023 can provide freshness to the ears specifically for fans of Western classical music in Malaysia.” he said.

The first series of LSS 2023 performed songs from Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn with the unique appearance of Foo Chie Haur, as a flute soloist.

Bryan Lee Kit Meng will be invited as a Harp soloist to perform the Dittersdorf Harp Concerto in the LLS 2023 second series. In addition, NSO will be presenting songs created by Mendelssohn and Carl Reinecke for this round.

The uniqueness of the third series in LSS 2023 will also be livened up with highlights from the string orchestra performing songs composed by Josef Suk and Tchaikovsky. A total of 25 NSO musicians and 10 invited musicians will also be involved in uplifting the LSS 2023 at the Panggung Sari, Istana Budaya.

Meanwhile, the exclusive fourth series of LSS 2023 will feature a full orchestra accompanied by a piano soloist, Celestin Yoong Qian Yi, an alumnus of the PERMATA Art Music programme. The combination of NSO performances and piano soloist for this series will surely be memorable for audiences with compositions from Felix Mendelssohn and Mozart.

The first Lambang Sari Series was held on the 8 July and all the audiences were pleased with the show. The second LSS series will be on 9 September followed by the third LSS series on 21 October, and the fourth series on 18 November.
