Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS Presents Exciting Concerts from Jan – Feb 2024

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the middle of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, will present exciting concerts from Jan – Feb 2024, celebrating music excellence and embracing the vibrancy of all music genres that grace the stage.

In its first concert offering for 2024, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present dance music, infectious melodies, sumptuous orchestration, lilting waltzes and frisky polkas that will sweep audience into an exhilarating orbit and send them radiantly happy into an idealised, romanticised Vienna of their dreams. Scheduled on 20 Jan 2024, the MPO under the helm of its Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga, will present a celebratory programme which includes Symphonie Concertante written by Belgian composer Joseph Jongen. This work will feature British-Australian organist Joseph Nolan who will weave his artistry magic on the DFP majestic Klais Pipe Organ. This concert will leave you with a mighty impression!

Next, the MPO will present a concert themed The Father, the Queen & the King on 27 Jan 2024. The programme will include Haydn’s Symphony No. 85, a delightful work characterised by its elegant melodies and graceful style, and Respighi’s Ancient Airs And Dances Suite No. 2 which will transport the audience to the Italian Renaissance era through its lush orchestration of ancient lute pieces. Organist Joseph Nolan returns to present Saint-Saens’ roof-raising Organ Symphony on the ‘King of Instrument’, a sonic spectacle that builds to a thrilling and memorable finale! Renowned Japanese conductor Junichi Hirokami will conduct the MPO in this concert.

February will witness the magic of cirque return to DFP. World renowned Cirque de la Symphonie will dazzle audience with its fantastic fusion of music and moves. Featuring acrobats, aerialists, strongmen, jugglers and contortionists, the concerts on 2 – 3 Feb 2024 will leave you breathless with daring choreography accompanied by classical masterpieces performed by the MPO. Don’t miss this visual spectacular concert to be conducted by Gerard Salonga.

Cirque de la Symphonie

Love is in the air when the MPO celebrates Valentine’s Day on 17 Feb 2024. To be led by Gerard Salonga, the concert will present an amorous selection of songs celebrating love with a touch of orchestral magic, sprinkled with some Broadway masterpieces from Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. Vocalists Sean Ghazi and Ida Mariana will enthral lovebirds but be prepared for surprise guest vocalists too!

These music offerings are a testament of DFP’s initiatives to cater to a variety of musical genres for the public to enjoy.
