PATRIOTIC MUSIC-MAKING AT EREHWON

As part of the annual Erehwon FiestaMakabayang Awitan Sa Erehwon will be staged at the Erehwon Center for the Arts’ (ECA) Tanghalang Behn Cervantes (Behn Cervantes Theater). Cervantes was a celebrated stage director and journalist from the University of the Philippines.

Makabayang Awitan will be a free concert as ECA offering to the community, particularly to residents of the surrounding neighborhood, students and teachers of nearby public schools, and staff and families involved in ECA activities such as the Center’s artists and writers’ collectives and groups based in the Center.

Well-loved performers and groups known for their artistry and folk appeal are leading the concert, notably the Andres Bonifacio Concert Choir named after the hero that sparked the Philippine Revolution of 1896 which eventually led to Philippine Independence, and the Tag-Ani (Harvest) Performing Arts Society, an ECA resident performing arts company. Other performers are those that have gained recognition for what is termed as OPM (Original Pilipino Music), led by Heber Bartolome and Banyuhay. The concert line-up includes Rockitwell BandJoey TuzonBoy DominguezLuna TripAlabok Band, and Mike Hanopol.

As the Concert is essentially a public and community outreach of the Center, admission is free.

In the words of ECA Chairman/CEO Rafael Rivera Benitez, “Erehwon Center for the Arts strives to be a people’s art center. It is incumbent that we stage this kind of activity as a way of giving back to our country and society.”
