Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance

A new network for artistic development and international collaboration

Initiated and organised by the Taipei Performing Arts Center, the second annual ADAM – Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance will be held from 15 Aug to 2 Sep in Taipei. The aims of ADAM are to deepen exchanges among artists and facilitate their artistic development, as well as to strengthen intercultural collaborations.ADAM consists of:

1) Artist Lab – Artists Huang Ding-yun (TW) and Henry Tan (TH) participated in the Artist Lab in 2017 and have been invited to curate this two-week residency programme under the theme Performativity of the In-between. The focuses are on questioning and drawing of fluid boundaries and interdisciplinary identification of artistic practices.

In collaboration with West Kowloon Cultural District (HK), Performance Space (AU), Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay (SG) and Creative New Zealand, artists from various disciplines across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond have been invited to attend ADAM and collaborate on new projects.

2) Annual Meeting – During this year’s meeting, there will be a series of work-in-progress performances to allow artists to share their recent and current research and cultural concerns. Additionally, roundtable discussions, lectures/performances and screening programme will be organised by international artists and curators to deal with the pressing socio-political issues of our times.

3) CARAVAN Taipei – In collaboration with Centre National de la Danse of France (CND), the Taipei Performing Arts Center will be presenting the inaugural biennial of dance, Camping Asia, in Taipei in 2019. At this year’s ADAM, CARAVAN Taipei will be presented as a parallel programme. CARAVAN is a mobile CND project. Choreographer Mathilde Monnier will lead workshop, give lecture, provide educational resources and introduce the vision of Camping Asia.

ADAM coincides with the Taipei Arts Festival. Professional attendes will have access to this festival’s programmes.
