Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival

Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2018 OzAsia Festival programme features 20 Australian and six world premieres, more than 250 performances, and the festival’s most impressive visual arts programme to date. From 25 Oct to 11 Nov, OzAsia Festival presents 439 activities, including more than 250 scheduled performances, 55 talks, 34 film screenings, eight exhibitions and 66 workshops.

Eko Supriyanto’s SALT is coming to OzAsia Festival 2018

Programme highlights include: award-winning choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s acrobatic masterpiece Sutra; internationally acclaimed Syrian production While I Was Waiting; Nassim Soleimanpour’s latest work Nassim; Eko Supriyanto’s renowned solo work Salt; and the Australian premieres of Korea’s international hit Dancing Grandmothers and legendary playwright and director Stan Lai’s beloved modern classic Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land.

South Australian artists also shine in a series of international collaboration debuts. Alison Currie teams up with Singapore’s RAW Moves to create Close Company. Paulo Castro will direct Hello My Name Is… featuring Timor Leste actor Jose Da Costa. Adelaide Composer David Kotlowy’s world premiere Patina features local artists along with Japanese dancer Shin Sakuma. OzAsia Festival favourites, Tutti Arts present three-way international co-production Say No More.

This year’s visual art programme is really special with exhibitions from Japan’s Ryoji Ikeda, Korea’s JeeYoung Lee, Malaysia’s Yee I-Ann, Thailand’s Kawita Vatanajyankur and Cambodia’s Anida Yoeu Ali.

Australia’s largest Moon Lantern Parade is back bigger and better than ever

For the festival’s opening weekend, Moon Lantern Parade is back bigger and better with an explosion of colour and lights on 27 Oct. Australia’s biggest lantern parade will feature more than 40 different handmade lanterns including nine brand new giant lanterns, community and roving performances, an impressive fireworks display and more vantage points than ever before.

Festival outdoor hub Lucky Dumpling Market will dish up the flavours of Asia plus free entertainment from local and international artists including Australia’s Gold Fields and Sophie Koh, Malaysia’s Nading Rhapsody and The Philippines’ Joey Ayala.

Borak Arts Series is the major annual arts conference and performing arts market for Southeast Asia

This year, OzAsia Festival also hosts Borak Arts Series. Over two and a half days from 1 to 3 Nov, delegates will participate in a comprehensive programme of networking, dialogue and cultural exchange, skills and creative development, and performances. Borak Arts Series in Adelaide will be the first time the event has been held outside Southeast Asia, providing an unprecedented opportunity for the Australian arts sector to engage with the event.  It is the major performing arts market and conference connecting Australia and Southeast Asia in 2018 and will attract approximately 140 inbound delegates from Southeast Asia.

In a significant coup for Adelaide, OzAsia Festival builds to a spectacular final weekend with the Jaipur Literature Festival team showcasing the artistic, literary and culinary heritage of South Asia and the world with books, ideas, food, music, dialogue and debate from 9 to 11 Nov.

More than 50 authors, journalists, thinkers and activists will descend on Adelaide for the completely free JLF in Adelaide, including mega-star Indian author Shobhaa De, Singaporean spoken word poet Pooja Nansit, multi-award winning writer and comedian Sami Shah and the festival’s Artistic Directors and celebrated writers William Dalrymple and Namita Gokhale.
