West Kowloon’s Free Outdoor Music & Arts Event – Freespace Happening

From September 2018 to March 2019, Freespace Happening – West Kowloon’s free outdoor music and arts event – will return every second weekend of each month with music, dance, literature-themed activities, a handicraft market and a rich variety of creative workshops for everyone to enjoy.

After three years in the Nursery Park, this year Freespace Happening is setting down roots in its permanent home, the Art Park. To mark this new start, we invite the audience to help us find new ways to create a rich and stimulating space for old and new friends, family, neighbours and strangers.

Taking Stories of Our Space as our theme, this season of Freespace Happening offers activities designed to inspire a new appreciation of our surroundings and fresh perspectives on our connections with the city’s vibrant mix of communities, its natural environment and its diverse plant and wildlife. Let’s come together and share our stories. Join us, and help us shape an open, creative, resourceful space for future generations.

Freespace Happening is West Kowloon Cultural District’s regular free outdoor event. Between August 2015 and March 2018, Freespace Happening attracted over 170,000 visitors to West Kowloon.

More about Freespace Happening

Over past seasons, Freespace Happening initiated a series of cross-genre musical collaborations designed to inspire musicians to experiment with new compositions and arrangement.

Stepping into a recording studio with new collaborators, individuals who took part were encouraged to take a fresh look at their work, revisiting tracks again and again to explore new ideas. The result is an exciting, eclectic collection of tracks brought together on our Freespace Mixtape. Freespace Mixtape Vol.1 and 2 will stream on various online platforms from November 2018.
