4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival

The Cutural Center of the Philippines (CCP) with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is pleased to announce the 4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila 2019, which will be held  from 18 – 21 Jul.

The competition is open to choirs which will qualify in any of the following three categories:  Folk Song, Equal Voices and Mixed Choir.

The Festival is named after the founder of the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers, the late National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion, an esteemed choirmaster and choral clinician who was instrumental in the development of choral music all over the country. First organised in 2013, the Festival takes place every two years. 

A jury composed of five internationally renowned adjudicators from – one  Europe, North America, South America, Africa/Australia and the Philippines will evaluate the competition.

Awards are as follows: 

Mixed Choir Category:    US$5,000 (1st Prize), US$3,500 (2nd Prize), US$2,500 (3rd Prize)

Equal Voices Category:  US$4,000 (1st Prize), US$2,500 (2nd Prize), US$1,500 (3rd Prize) 

Folk Song Catogory:       US$3,000 (1st Prize), US$2,000 (2nd Prize), US$1,000 (3rd Prize)

The Festival will coincide with the 1st Asia Choral Grand Prix, which will be held on the Festival’s last day on 21 Jul. The Asia Choral Grand Prix is a competition of the top two winners of the 2017 and 2018 competitions of the following international choir festivals: Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival (Philippines), Bali International Choir Festival (Indonesia), and the Singapore International Choral Festival (Singapore).

The six participating choirs are as follows: Brawijaya University Student Choir (Indonesia) and University of the Philippines Los Baños Choral Ensemble (Philippines) representing Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival; Deum Voice (Indonesia) and Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Padjadjaran (Indonesia) representing Bali International Choir Festival; and Vocalista Harmonic Choir ISI from Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and St. Louis High School Choir (Indonesia) representing Singapore International Choir Festival.
Each participating choir must render a varied programme of its choice with a maximum singing time of 20 minutes.
A jury of five internationally renowned adjudicators with a maximum of two Asians will evaluate the competition.

The Asia Choral Grand Prix 2019 is jointly organised by the artistic and festival directors of the three competitions to elevate the overall quality and appreciation of the choral art, and inspire audiences and artists through choral music by uniting the outstanding festivals and competitions in Asia.

The next Asia Choral Grand Prix will be held in Indonesia in 2021 and in Singapore in 2023.
