Enjoy Jazz for Every Moment of Life

Much loved by fans and hailed as the most notable Jazz festival with best line-up in Taiwan, NTCH Summer Jazz Party is celebrating its 17th anniversary this year. The exceptional line-up in 2019 includes Charles Lloyd, the Saxophone virtuoso honored by the Jazz Master Award of National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). First nominated for Grammy Award when he was merely 12, the young piano prodigy Joey Alexander will make his Taiwan debut. Furthermore, there will be a special tribute programme to Louis Armstrong: first-rate musicians from Taiwan and abroad will take turn paying homage to the father of Jazz with their music, and bring audience back to the beautiful era of Jazz that spans from the early to the mid-20^th century. Join us from 1 Aug to 7 Sep for the superb feast of music.

The motto for 2019 NTCH Summer Jazz Party is “Life is Jazz, Play it Loud”. Since its birth in New Orleans more than a hundred years ago, Jazz has developed so much that it becomes not just a music genre, but also an attitude to life: an attitude of improvisation, liberal and unrestrainable, inspiring people to be confidently true to themselves.

The special project of the 2019 Summer Jazz Party, will bring you closer to the place where Harlem jazz had been celebrated for more than 50 years. Orchestrated by Vincent Hsu, the jazz bassist and composer who had played in St. Nick’s Pub for years, the concert features a wide range of jazz music–including hard bop, R&B, funk, Latin, reggae, and Motown – to turn the Experimental Theater into the historical sacred spot of Jazz in Harlem.

Jazz at the Bistro：Playing with Pops

Join us for three Saturday nights of charming jazz melodies in the breezy summer air. Jazz at the Bistro this year features the works of great musicians who have worked with the Father of Jazz, Louis Armstrong. Taiwanese jazz musicians the Mike & Hope Duo, Shih Ying-ying and trio, and Our Piano Trio will respectively present the popular Fats Waller songs from The Greatest Showman, the classics of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith, and the performance style of Teddy Wilson, the Gentleman of Swing.

NTCH Summer Jazz Party “Joey Alexander Trio”

Joey Alexander, the piano prodigy and the hottest ticket in New York’s Jazz scene, is visiting Taiwan for the first time. Born in Indonesia, Joey Alexander was nominated for two Grammy Awards of the Best Improvised Jazz Solo and the Best Jazz Instrumental Album at the age of 12. His superb techniques in playing piano are highly praised by such legendary musician as Herbie Hancock and Wynton Marsalis, and have driven New Yorkers crazy.
