Shenzhen Concert Hall Autumn & Winter Performance Season 2019

Shenzhen Concert Hall is celebrating its birthday on 12 Oct and there will be a special concert for the birthday celebration. The forthcoming Autumn & Winter Performance Season (from September to December) will gather a number of remarkable music masters, celebrated conductors, young musicians and renowned orchestras, including Mikhail Pletnev, Juan Diego Flórez, Riccardo Chailly with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Shenzhen Concert Hall “Fly Over the Rainbow” Multiethnic Children’s Choir, Haochen Zhang, Sarah Chang, the principals of Staatskapelle Dresden and Yinyin Zhao amongst others.

Haochen Zhang Piano Recital

Haochen Zhang is going to impress the audience with his unique combination of deep musical sensitivity, fearless imagination, and spectacular virtuosity at the piano recital for Shenzhen Concert Hall’s birthday. Since winning the gold medal at the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, Zhang has captivated audiences in the United States, Europe and Asia. In 2017, Haochen received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognises talented musicians with the potential for a major career in music.

Haochen Zhang has already appeared with many of the world’s leading festivals and orchestras including the BBC Proms with Long Yu and the China Philharmonic; the Munich Philharmonic with the late Lorin Maazel in a sold-out tour in Munich and China; the Easter Festival in Moscow by special invitation of Maestro Valery Gergiev; the Sydney Symphony and David Robertson in a China tour; and the NDR Hamburg and Thomas Hengelbrock in a tour of Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai.

He has also performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, London Symphony, London Philharmonic, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio, San Francisco Symphony, LA Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and Israel Philharmonic among others. For recital, he has performed at venues such as Spivey Hall, La Jolla Music Society, Celebrity Series of Boston, CU Artist Series, Cliburn Concerts, Krannert Center, Wolf Trap Discovery Series, Lied Center of Kansas and UVM Lane Series.

Zhang is also an avid chamber musician, collaborating with colleagues such as the Shanghai Quartet, Tokyo Quartet, Brentano Quartet, and active, young soloists such as violinist Benjamin Beilman and cellist Aurélien Pascal. He is frequently invited by chamber music festivals in the United States including the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and La Jolla Summerfest.

Multiethnic Children’s Choir in Concert

The concert will be performed by the Shenzhen Concert Hall’s “Fly Over the Rainbow” Multiethnic Children’s Choir under the baton of Shenzhen famous conductor Manxue Hu, along with mysterious guest performers. Programme highlight a series of Chinese folk songs and Chinese ancient tunes with regional characteristics.

Shenzhen Concert Hall’s “Fly Over the Rainbow” Multiethnic Children’s Choir was officially established at the beginning of 2019, aiming at performing diverse world music, gathering children from various ethnicities, and targeting the high standard of choral art. The Children’s Choir constitutes three groups, containing Performance Group, Reserve Group and Enlightenment Group. Since the publication of the Choir’s recruitment, it has received considerable attention and attracted numerous children of school age to apply. Currently under the tutelage of a team headed by conductor Manxue Hu, along with the powerful professional consultants from home and abroad, the Children’s Choir has obtained a systematic and comprehensive music education and rapidly developed into a top-level choir possessing a high starting point.

Manxue Hu

Conductor Manxue Hu was born in a music family and began to study piano at the age of six. From 1990 to 1997, she taught at Jiangxi Normal University piano department. Since 1997 she has been a faculty member of Shenzhen Senior High School and became a founding member of the Shenzhen Senior High School Lily Children’s Choir, in charge of piano accompaniment and stage choreographing. In 2005 she pursued further research at conducting department of Central Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of famous conductor and educator Hongnian Yang and young conductor Lin Chen. She was one of the ten recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Service and was honored “Women Pacesetter of Shenzhen” awarded by Shenzhen municipal government. She also won the Excellent Conductor Award of the 1st Choral Festival of Shenzhen.

New Year Concert Performance Season

Echoed with splendid melodies, Shenzhen Concert Hall will bring audiences annual performances of New Year Concert with different themes from 28 Dec to 1 Jan. Famed musicians from home and abroad with local and international orchestras of repute will congregate at the venue, delivering sparkling performances, showcasing the top-level of musicianship and celebrating a new start of the year with us. Under the direction of distinguished conductors, the programmes include classic works by Suppé, Beethoven, Borodin, Smetana, Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian, Prokofiev, among others.
