Highlights of Shenzhen Concert Hall at the Start of 2020

Two performances will take place at Shenzhen Concert Hall from January to March in 2020, coinciding with the Shenzhen One Belt One Road Performance Season. Chinese soprano Hui He, famous tenor Gianluca Terranova, guest clarinetist Yueqiang Guo, together with Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Vladimir Sheiko on the podium, will present an impressive operatic concert and end the Concert Hall’s Autumn & Winter Performance. Another surprise is that at the beginning of the Spring & Summer Performance Season, Phiharmonix will be coming in March with its sophisticated sense of humor, bringing audiences music that is not necessarily classical but possesses lots of fun.

Soprano: Hui He

Hui He is the only Chinese singer acting as the protagonists of operas from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. She has performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world like the Metropolitan in New York, Vienna State Opera, Arena di Verona, etc., interpreting the title roles of Verdi’s Aida, Ballo in Maschera, Stiffelio, Attila, Il Trovatore, Puccini’s Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, to mention but a few. She has appeared on stage along with the most renowned conductors as Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. She has won many international awards, like Oscar of Lirica Award, Illica Award, Juliette Award, Kalaidos Award etc.

Tenor: Gianluca Terranova

Gianluca Terranova is becoming one of the most sought-after lyric tenors with his ease in the high register and great stage presence. He has appeared as Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Puccini Festival Torre del Lago and Teatro Comunale in Bologna; as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor; as Alfredo in La Traviata at the Filarmonico in Verona and  La Fenice in Venice (conducted by Myung-Wung Chung); as Duke in Rigoletto in Florence; as Tonio in La Fille du Régiment in Trieste, Como, Bergamo and Brescia.

Clarinet: Yueqiang Guo

Yueqiang Guo is the only Chinese clarinet player who has won prizes in international clarinet competitions in Romania, Japan and China; 15th Annual Meeting of Clarinet (2003) in Romania, 11^th International Music Competition (Clarinet Competition) held in Osaka, Japan, and the 2nd International MOZART Clarinet Competition (2013) in China. Since 2008, Guo has been regularly invited to perform as a guest performer for major symphony orchestras in China and has been widely praised by many of the conductors whom he collaborated with, including Yi Zhang, Jia Lv, Feng Yu, Yongyan Hu, Guoyong Zhang, Xincao Li, amongst others.

Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra is widely acknowledged for its artistry and well-known in Ukraine and abroad. For many decades, the Orchestra’s activity was a great contribution to national music culture treasury. Since 2005, the Symphony Orchestra has been led by Vladimir Sheiko. The Orchestra has developed gradually alongside the collaborations with the prominent conductors of the 20th century and has worked with worldwide known opera singers and instrumentalists. For its special contributions to the musical art development, the Orchestra was granted the title of “Honored Collective” and the “Academic Status”.

Conductor: Vladimir Sheiko

Vladimir Sheiko became the Chief Conductor of Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra in August 2005. Under his direction, the Orchestra performed masterpieces in 17 countries across the world, including China, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Iran. He was granted the Diploma of the Government of Ukraine and Insignia of Honour of Ministry of Culture of Ukraine in 2012; the Order of Friendship in 2013; the honorary title of Ukraine “People’s Artist of Ukraine” in 2015.

Phiharmonix Concert

Featuring Noah Bendix-Balgley, Sebastian Gürtler, Thilo Fechner, Stephan Koncz (cello), Ödön Rácz, Daniel Ottensamer, and Christoph Traxler, the Philharmonix brings together three members of the Vienna Philharmonic, two Berlin Philharmonic soloists, one of the most versatile Austrian pianists and an improvising and singing violinist, for a deliciously heady cocktail of classical, jazz, klezmer, Latin, even pop music.

Violin: Noah Bendix-Balgley

First Concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2014, Noah Bendix-Balgley has thrilled and moved audiences around the world with his performances. Since becoming a Laureate of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and gathering acclaim at further international competitions, Noah has appeared as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre National de Belgique, Auckland Philharmonia and the Utah Symphony among others.

Violin: Sebastian Gürtler

From 1997 to 2008, he served as First Concertmaster of the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra. His chamber music partners include Stefan Mendl, Markus Schirmer, Philippo Gamba, Clemens Hagen, Mario Brunello, amongst others. Sebastian Gürtler played as a soloist with the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, the Dresden Philharmonic and so forth.

Viola: Thilo Fechner

Thilo Fechner was a member of the Herbert von Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Berlin Baroque Orchestra. In 1996, Thilo Fechner was engaged with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva. In 1997, he signed with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Having been repeatedly involved at the Bayreuth Festival, he became a member of Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic in 2004.

Cello: Stephan Koncz

As a soloist and chamber musician, Stephan Koncz won several prizes at national and international competitions. From 2006 to 2008, Stephan Koncz was a fellow at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy and subsequently played with both the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. After two years as a member of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra / Vienna Philharmonic, he returned to Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as a regular member in 2010.

Double Bass: Ödön Rácz

Ödön Rácz is double bass soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra since 2009. Ödön Rácz has performed as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Münchener Kammerorchester, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks as well as the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, the Haydn Philharmonic and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra.

Clarinet: Daniel Ottensamer

Principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Prizewinner of the most prestigious international competitions. Remarkable soloistic career, with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Gustavo Dudamel, Andris Nelsons, etc. CD-Recordings as a soloist and as member of “the clarinotts” released by Sony-Classical and the “Deutsche Grammophon”.

Piano: Christoph Traxler

Christoph Traxler is one of the most versatile young Austrian pianists. He performs with orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Halle with famous conductors like Manfred Honeck and Ralf Weikert. Futhermore he appears on stage in recitals and chamber music concerts with partners such as Angelika Kirchschlager, Bo Skovhus and members of the Vienna and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Shenzhen One Belt One Road Performance Season

The Shenzhen One Belt One Road Performance Season will be hosted in parallel in the next year. At a time of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday, this season is supposed to focus on the theme of Beethoven. It may feature Haochen Zhang and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra playing all Beethoven’s Piano Concertos. Other highlights may include Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas performed by Isabelle Faust, Beethoven’s works for quartet (selected), Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra Concert, performances of Estonian National Male Choir and other accomplished orchestras.
