The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is presenting music during the Coronavirus crisis in a different way.

ASO’s Managing Director Vincent Ciccarello recently announced the ASO’s Virtual Concert Hall, an innovative series of mini-online recitals in which ASO players introduce and perform music ranging from the sublime to the humorous, from much-loved classics to the less well-known.

Music has a unique ability to improve mood, self-esteem and quality of life. The ASO is committed to ensuring South Australians, as well as audiences all over the world, remain connected to the ASO through its music-making.

Mr Ciccarello said that although the ASO’s regular schedule of live concerts was currently on hold due to COVID-19, he was pleased in the interim to be able to present these recitals featuring our very own ASO musicians.

While the online experience is unlikely to replace the thrill of a live concert, we hope they’ll give you some solace and company,” he said.

Leading the project is the ASO’s Director of Artistic Planning, Simon Lord along with a technical team headed by Paul Cowley. Over the last few weeks, the ASO’s normal rehearsal space, the Grainger Studio, has been transformed into a digital TV studio.

Specially produced solo performances by the ASO’s musicians are available to watch weekly https://www.aso.com.au/events/packages/virtual-concert-hall/

In addition to the Virtual Concert Hall, the ASO have been engaging with their audiences by introducing a series of Q & A’s: ASO in the Kitchen sees musicians revealing their favourite recipes, MUSOs of the ASO introduce musicians off the stage, and Orchestral Desert Island Discs are compilations of 8 tracks, a book, and a luxury item the musicians can’t live without.  To find out more about ASO musicians https://www.aso.com.au/about/news-media/
