Aichi Prefectural Art Theater 2021 Season Schedule

In 2021, the Aichi Prefectural Art Theater will continue to hold a variety of diverse and fulfilling programmes for Aichi prefecture residents and many others to enjoy. 

In the Main Theatre, we will present Matasaburo of the Wind, produced, directed, and choreographed by Saburo Teshigawara for the first time as Aichi Prefectural Art Theater Arts Director; Two Feet, in which the Royal Ballet’s principal dancer will trace the life of a legendary ballerina; Nissay Theatre’s Nissay Opera La Bohème; and more. Matasaburo of the Wind will be performed by experienced ballet dancers with ties to the Tokai area, selected by audition. This dance work aims to further revitalise dance in the region and to promote fruitful exchanges. We hope you will enjoy it.

For the Summer Family programme, the popular annual Nissay Theatre Classical Music Story Concert and a Norwegian dance company’s adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea will be among our offerings. With tours throughout the prefecture, we strive to make theatre easily accessible to families.

 Finally, for the Mini-sele programmes held throughout the year, our performance line–up will include a concert by Amsterdam-based pianist and artist Tomoko Mukaiyama in a 360-degree video room, and a new collaboration with Dance Base Yokohama, a “dance house” facility that received the Good Design Award in October 2020.

We will also hold an open house at the Main Theatre free of charge, to encourage people to become interested in theatre. In addition, we are expanding our human resources training programmes for both staff and artists, as well as our public awareness programmes aimed at expanding audiences for the performing arts.
