2024 Taiwan Dance Platform at Weiwuying

Finding Different “Bodily Histories” from the Perspective of the “History of the Body” 

Weiwuying’s biennial Taiwan Dance Platform will once again be headed by Weiwuying resident artist CHOU Shu-yi. He has chosen the theme of History of the Body, for which performances, a video exhibition, forums, and opportunities for artists to promote their work to agents/performance venues will go on from 25 November to 1 December. The event is aimed at finding different dance-related “bodily histories” through people, places, and time, or it may also be thought of as a way to view works that have emerged from different bodily contexts in dance history.

Several reputed dancers from the international scene have been invited to be part of the event, which includes five ticketed indoor shows and five free outdoor shows. The indoor ones are Party, by Taiwanese choreographer LIN I-fang (who has lived in France), and Ban-ping Shan, a work she created with French visual artist Jocelyn COTTENCIN; German choreographer Jan MÖLLMER’s A Dancer’s Odyssey; Taiwanese Truku-tribe member Watan Tusi and TAI Body Theatre’s Papak (based on the concept of footprints); Laotian choreographer Olé KHAMCHANLA’s CERCLE and his collaborative work with Lei Dance Theater, Proximities; On The Way To ＿＿, by Taiwanese choreographer LIN Yen-ching (who has lived in Europe); and Adam & Eve, by Taiwanese choreographer CHIEN Ching-ying (who has lived in the UK) and Korean street dancer Issue PARK.

The five outdoor performances are Singaporean T.H.E Dance Company’s Invisible Habitudes, Taiwanese Shimmering Production’s Hand in Hand, We Dance, eastern Taiwanese Bulareyaung Dance Company’s Colours, excerpts from Taiwanese Resident Island Dance Theatre’s In Factory, and excerpts from Taiwanese Dawn Pottery Dance Studio’s A Journey of Rokuro. On top of that, 11 videos selected by a jury and other videos invited to show will be on exhibit.
