DFP presents 2025 Season with Exciting Concerts

Celebrate the new year in a true Viennese way as the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) transports you to a world of musical sophistication and joy. Immerse yourself in the timeless music of Johan Strauss II as MPO Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga helms the celebration the Waltz King’s 250th birth anniversary through his unforgettable compositions including his best-known operetta Die Fledermaus and other famous works such as Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, Tales from the Vienna Woods Waltzes, Emperor’s Waltz and The Blue Danube. Prepare to be swept away by the grandeur and elegance of iconic classical dance music on 18 Jan.

The stage is set for Malaysia’s godfather of stand-up comedy, Harith Iskander, 25 Jan. Prepare to rumble and laugh as he delivers his distinctive brand of humour and wit in this unmissable show themed 35 Years of Laughter.

MPO Music Director Junichi Hirokami will weave his magic in a concert themed Dvorak Double on 8 Feb. The MPO will explore works such as Symphony No. 9 ‘From the New World’ and Cello Concerto in B minor; the latter will present the musicianship of cellist Santiago Canon Valencia, transporting you to a world of longing and contemplation.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with MPO on 15 Feb. Gerard Salonga will return to the podium to lead the MPO in a beautifully curated programme themed Essential Love Stories comprising songs from classic movies such as Emma, Cinderella, Pride And Prejudice, In The Mood For Love and Romeo And Juliet.  

The MPO will collaborate with local band Slam on 22 Feb. Enjoy a night of Malay pop songs and reminisce the 90s era when the MPO gives fresh symphonic interpretation to Slam’s popular melancholy hits. Ahmad Muriz Che Rose will helm this concert.

Fans of classical music should not miss a concert themed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on 8 Mar. Savour the vibrant energy of spring and feel the summer heat before going to autumn’s joy and wrap up with the winds of winter when the MPO Concertmaster Peter Danis lead the MPO in this presentation.  

Malaysian conductor Jebat Kee will lead the MPO in a family concert themed Fables And Fugues on 15 Mar. Collaborating with Really Inventive Stuff, this concert offers an enjoyable family entertainment for young and old alike with interactions with audiences to introduce and educate aspects of orchestral music.
