DFP Presents Exciting Concerts by MPO
Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the middle of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, continues to present a host of dazzling concerts by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). With the theme Where Every Beat Tells A Story, the concert presentations will cater to a diverse range of tastes and preferences.
First, the MPO will bring you to a walk down the memory lane on 22 Mar 2025 in a concert themed Symphony Of Memories: Nostalgic Hong Kong Classics featuring local singers such as Amy Chan, Kaho Loh, Tan Soo Suan and Lim Yong Huat. Under the helm of Hong Kong-born conductor Francis Kan, they will mesmerise with songs taken from famous Hong Kong movies and TV series, bringing familiar melodies of Canto-pop to life.

Next, the MPO will present a concert themed Classical Treasures bringing gems from famed operas such as Romeo And Juliet and The Magic Flute to the stage. Featuring local singer Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, this concert will treat your senses to the soothing melodies via some of the world’s beloved compositions. MPO Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga will lead this concert on 5 Apr 2025.
Showcasing its brilliant virtuosity, the MPO will present a classical-crossover concert themed The Music Of Pink Floyd featuring hits from the progressive British band with an orchestral flavour on 12 Apr 2025. Under the baton of Brent Havens, the MPO will collaborate with singer Randy Jackson in a concert that will delight fans of symphonic rock music and new audience who want to explore an innovative programme.

The MPO will next present its debut performance of Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto on 19 Apr 2025. This milestone will witness the MPO’s collaboration with violinist Charles Yang who is also a compelling vocalist, composer, arranger and a Grammy Award winner. Austrian conductor Katharina Wincor will steer this concert in a programme that will also include works such as Salieri’s Overture to La grotto di Trofonio and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.3, nicknamed ‘Scottish’.

Another showcase of the MPO’s exceptional versatility is scheduled on 26 Apr 2025. Join an evening of staple jazz numbers, cover versions and new compositions infused with a modern, Asian twist in a concert which will also feature the WVC Jazz Ensemble, The Shang Sisters and vocalists Junji Delfino and Izen Kong. Conductor Gerard Salonga will helm this fantastic line-up on the DFP stage.

The MPO will celebrate the works of Bizet in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of his demise on 17 May 2025. Rossen Gergov will conduct the MPO and bring audience to the passionate world of Carmen. Famed for its captivating melodies and unforgettable characters, this concert will feature vocalists Sandy Cheng, Sian Sharp, Diego Torre and Shawn Liew, and is a must-see for opera enthusiasts and those new to the genre.

The month of May will end with an MPO concert under the helm of Andrea Marcon on 31 May 2025. Featuring classical masterpieces, the MPO will perform Mozart’s Horn Concerto IV, featuring virtuosic player Grzegorz Curyla, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.2. Be transported to a world of joy in this music splendour.
