From Formosa – Taiwan Philharmonic: Japan Tour in May and June 2025

From May to Jun 2025, Taiwan Philharmonic and Music Director Jun Märkl will return to Japan to perform at several prestigious venues across three cities, namely Kumamoto Prefectural Theater, The Symphony Hall in Osaka, and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

On this tour, Taiwan Philharmonic will continue to build on the musical friendship between Taiwan and Japan with Japanese violist Nobuko Imai, sopranos Maki Mori and Ena Miyachi, Taiwan-American violinist Paul Huang, and the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus. The diverse and captivating concerts not only celebrate the deep friendship between Taiwanese and Japanese musicians but also present the voices of Taiwan to the world. The symphonic repertoire includes Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Bruch’s Double Concerto in E Minor, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.

In addition, the tour will showcase three Taiwanese compositions in different programmes: Tyzen Hsiao‘s The Angel from Formosa, and two new works, one by Gordon Chin commissioned by Mr. & Mrs. Y.T. Hsu Memorial Cultural and Education Foundation, and another by Ke-Chia Chen commissioned by Taiwan’s Hakka Affairs Council.
