Weiwuying International Music Festival

The Weiwuying International Music Festival is an annual celebration of music at Weiwuying. Now in its fourth edition, the 2025 festival will once again be led by Unsuk CHIN—one of Asia’s most acclaimed female composers—as artistic director. The focus is on three outstanding soloists: legend-status Hungarian pianist Dezsö RANKI, rising star violinist Inmo YANG, and the captivating countertenor Kangmin Justin KIM.

With the theme Quiet Revolutions, the festival’s eight programmes will seamlessly bridge classical and contemporary works. From the transcendent arias on life and the soul by G. HÄNDEL to Alexander von ZEMLINSKY’s evocative fairy tale soundscapes, and on to four contemporary pieces celebrating the vibrancy of life by this year’s resident composer, Augusta Read THOMAS. The songs connect powerful connections across centuries, and through the music, the audiences will experience the quiet yet profound force of musical transformation. 

2025 Weiwuying International Music Festival, Closing Concert – The Four Temperaments

A hallmark of the festival, the Weiwuying Contemporary Music Ensemble performs a number of Taiwanese and Asian premieres, and this year’s repertoire includes two extremely demanding works. Besides that, the ensemble will debut several works by leading Asian composers in Hommage à Isang Yun at the Tongyeong International Music Festival on 29 Mar.  

Beyond the concerts, the festival also features the documentary The Outsider: The Story of Harry Partch and a related forum, which explores the philosophy of music of the American avant-garde composer Harry PARTCH.
