DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS CONTINUES TO PRESENT EXCITING CONCERTS IN QUARTER 3 OF 2025

We kicked off June 2025 with a movie screening of award-winning movie The Godfather with ‘live’ music accompaniment by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). Audiences were treated to a screening of one of the greatest movies in the history of cinema, in high definition on the big screen in the concert hall with a simultaneous performance of its soundtrack by the MPO under the baton of Gerard Salonga. Popular Indonesian indie band Parade Hujan will dazzled fans performing hits from its inception days in 2006 right up to the recent hit.
South Korea-born violin virtuoso Bomsori Kim enthralled fans of classical music with a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 with the MPO. Under the leadership of conductor Jaume Santonja, the MPO also performed other masterpieces such as Schumann’s Overture to Byron’s Manfred and one of Rachmaninoff’s finest scores, Symphonic Dances.

Katie Birtill
Travel back in time to the glamourous Hollywood’s Golden Age with conductor Richard Balcombe as he steers magic on the MPO in a programme featuring two of the biggest names in American music; Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra. Listen to evergreen songs such as Somewhere Over The Rainbow (from ‘The Wizard Of Oz’), The Boy Next Door (from ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’), The Man That Got Away (from ‘A Star Is Born’) and You’re Sensational (from ‘High Society’) with vocalists Katie Birtill and Graham Bickley. Relive the gilded glamour on 12 Jul.

Mistik Pura Masyrik
As its continuous initiative to provide a platform for cultural heritage performances, DFP will present Mistik Pura Masyrik on 9 Aug. Featuring ARTISTANA Istana Budaya and Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia, this presentation will witness a performance of East Coast legendary folktales such as Cik Siti Wan Kembang, Princess Walinong Sari and the seven princesses of Ulik Mayang delivered in a magical glory full of mysticism. Savour the richness of our priceless heritage in this rare offering.

Melody Quah
The first of two-part Chopin Festival will commence on 16 Aug where audience will be dazzled with the composer’s popular works under the masterful guidance of MPO’s Music Director, Junichi Hirokami. The MPO will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1 collaborating with pianist Melody Quah, delivering a delicate interplay of the orchestra and piano. The MPO will close the concert with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.

The Temple of Fine Arts
Next, DFP will present mesmerising Indian classical music and dance themed Ragas And Mudras by The Temple of Fine Arts on 6 Sep. Experience a rare performing arts performance presented through rhythmic artistry that weaves intricate dance movements and soul-stirring traditional music, passed down through generations.
The MPO returns to the DFP stage, this time to present an adventurous Holst’s The Planet: A Cosmic Symphony concert on 13 Sep. Junichi Hirokami will lead the MPO and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra on a journey through the solar system exploring the fiery Mars, serene Venus and the mystical allure of Neptune, among other planets, through a work that transports you to the far reaches of the galaxy.
Finally, dive into the mesmerising world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba In Concert like never before, with the MPO on 20 Sep. The MPO is set to bring an extraordinary music celebrating the captivating epic odyssey through unforgettable scenes projected onto the cinema screen.
