WestK Solo Fest

WestK Solo Fest, an international showcase of self-reflective work by artists and performers from various backgrounds who share their individual stories in unique ways, will take place at Freespace and the Xiqu Centre from 8 -18 Jan 2026.

Inspired by questions around the nature of solo performance, the festival gathers artists exploring a variety of methodologies and illustrates the myriad possibilities that emerge when performers take the stage alone.

The invited artists were selected for their innovative and individual perspectives and voices. Acclaimed in their respective fields, each of them brings their own cultural heritage and personal histories – conveying them with curiosity, humour, rage and poignancy, and illustrating that the personal is, very often, also universal.

Beyond the performances, the festival includes artist-led conversations around the possibilities of solo performance, with Hong Kong moderators and speakers. There is also a multi-day professional creative workshop with Manchester-based writer and performer Chris Thorpe, exploring methods of creating solo work and including one-on-one development sessions.
