Flagship Opera Il trovatore Showcases In-House Excellence

This momentum takes center stage this Sep with Weiwuying’s highly anticipated annual flagship opera: an all-new, entirely in-house production of Verdi’s masterpiece, Il trovatore. Famous for its thunderous choruses, technically demanding arias, and a dramatic plot of family vendettas and tragic love, the production serves as a powerful testament to the venue’s artistic maturity. It represents a thrilling challenge that pushes the boundaries of both musical interpretation and complex stage technology.  

To bring this epic to life, Weiwuying has reunited director Pier Francesco Maestrini and set designer Nicolas Boni—the creative duo behind 2024’s acclaimed Manon Lescaut. Together with a stellar Taiwanese production team, they will craft a visually striking medieval world inspired by the gritty, cinematic aesthetic of Game of Thrones. Conducted by Chien himself and featuring an elite lineup of international and local vocalists inside the state-of-the-art Opera House, this lavish sensory feast stands as a major milestone, showcasing Taiwan’s grand-scale opera production capabilities to the world.
